Christmas Dinner in BC
 

Hi guys me again, as we are nearing the festive season I've been wondering what people do on Xmas day. I know the majority of people will cook dinner at home or go to a relatives or friends but me and my partner have only been here in North Van since Sept 7th and don't really know anyone yet other than a few work colleagues who all do their own thing.
When we were in the UK we used to head over to my nanna and grandads with my parents and sisters etc for a fantastic dinner, games and more prezzis!!!
However with us being in Canada that will not be happening this year so I was wondering if anyone knows of any restaurants opening on Xmas day serving turkey and the trimmings as It's a bit pointless me cooking the whole shebang for just the 2 of us? I've searched on the internet and kept my eyes open in restaurants but haven't seen anything advertised.

Any info would be MUCH appreciated

Many restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, but some -- specially those located in major hotels -- put on a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. If you want one of those, I suggest you make a reservation immediately if not sooner.

A great antidote to loneliness is to identify various people who will be at a loose end on Christmas Day and invite them over to your place for Christmas dinner. I speak from experience.

hi there! shame realy we didn't live a bit closer..as we are in the same boat as you..so much so that i have offered to work on Xmas day if needed:ohmy: hehee

we were thinking the same thing..maybe go out to a restaurant somewhere aswell...i have been looking for somewhere to maybe go aswell.

Here in MB you will only find Hotels open on Xmas day, the reason is that licensed restaurants/bars are not allowed to serve booze on Christmas Day. In fact they are not even allowed to open if they have a booze license.:thumbdown:

I know there are other expats in N.Van and Vancouver, maybe you should start a new tradition and get together for Christmas dinner. If you don't get any responses, and if you're willing to drive out to Maple Ridge, you and your other half are welcome to come to my house for Christmas dinner. There'll be daughter and her family (2 teenage boys), son and his wife from Vancouver, one of their friends, me and other half. We're very traditional, you'll have to pull crackers and wear a silly hat.

I'll come for Xmas if you are really stuck...but you will have to buy my flight...Zoom fly from Belfast direct to Van btw:rofl:

Why not make the whole shebang for the two of you...its worth it, if you have each other you dont need anyone else:wub:

Hey, yeah come over, you wouldn't mind bring the following would you:
Fully cooked ready to eat turkey
Pigs in blankets
nicely roasted potatoes,
some yorkshire puds
and some veggies :-D

I was thinking about cooking but there's a couple of issues...I don't really like cooking and 2 i'm not very good at it:eek:. Hence the reason we moved to Canada cos there's tonnes of cheap eats :thumbsup: (Only kidding)

Hey what am I thinking, my boyf can cook so I best start sweet talking him!! He makes the best Jamie Oliver Stuffed Poussin thingies - So who's for dinner at ours then :rofl:

I assume that means you can eat on Grouse Mountain. Something to write home about.

I believe Denny's is open, it was in the Tim Allen Santa Claus movie anyway.

Other than when the rellies have visited we spend every Christmas on our own, with the kids. Nice & peaceful, no arguing over where we spend Christmas day.
Fire up the BBQ and put the Turkey on, with roasties. Cut em small so they go nice and crispy, Yorkshires in the oven (that's about all that will fit).

Stopped the OH putting bacon on the BBQ though. Last time the garage nearly burned down, so I do the BBQ myself. Snow or shine, whatever the temp. There are no shortage of volunteers willing to watch from the warmth of the living room.

Here is a couple of places that might be good to try, also I know all the big hotels have special christmas meals, expensive though, or ask at some of the local restaurants (yellow pages) but you need to book now. North Shore

Sounds like your going to have the best xmas :D Must admit i'm dreading it this year, usually have a big house full ( i'm the only one daft enough to do all that cooking ) in my family. :D This is the 2nd time i have seen you offer a stranger the chance to share your home over xmas, it takes a special person to be so generous and selfless :thumbsup:
