Children in Nova Scotia
 

Hi

I would be interested to hear from people in NS re some queries I have about the little ones:thumbup:

I have son who is 6 and sports mad and a 2 yr old daughter.

I have school sorted for son, he will be attending for the last couple of weeks of term before the summer break, hopefully he will make a few friends;) and I have made arrangements for daughter to try out a nursery/day care once we arrive, as long term it is likely she will need to go to day care/pre school.

We are moving to the outskirts of Truro and would love to hear of things that there are around for the kids to do. Particulalrly any soccer clubs in the Truro area. Son also keen to have a go at Hockey:thumbsup:He loves cricket like his Dad here in the UK, any chance there us anything there, even indoors:D?

For anyone that has children in daycare is there anything particularly different in NS or Canada generally that is different to the UK(it seems a lot cheaper than the UK, even taking into account possible lower wages $27 a day I have been quoted:thumbsup:)

Just wondering if anyone can add their experiences re daycare for pre school age in NS or Canada generally, costs, quality generally, quirks etc:eek: The one I am looking at seems to have fairly good hourly coverage, in winter are they fairly flexible if you happen to be late etc, or do they charge on a meter kind of thing( I only ask as some UK ones do:eek:)

Are meals normally included or do you provide your own?

I appreciate some of this may end up being quite specific to the day care but a general idea would be great:thumbup:

The one they attended was wonderful. At first we were thrilled with the fact that we could watch them on the video link from home but that soon wore off.

Have a browse around - fees and such are there. We had to provide snacks.

Pre-school here is only for two hours a day, but some schools have the cildren in for two and a half days a week - depends where you go. Ours went to the pre-school attached to the school they would ultimately attend full time. It was a long school run but worth it - again a wonderful school.

We provide all snacks and lunches, plus school supplies for full time schooling right down to pencils.

you will get a list like that every school year, per child. I still prefer getting 'supplies' over the cost of uniforms, but seeing all the kids with no uniform on is still odd to me, even after all this time.

agree, that the uniform thing will seem strange, in some ways whilst it cost a lot, it does make the mornings easier:D

You (son and husband) will, I think, will have difficulty with their affection for cricket. It is only recently being played in Canada and for the greatest part by Indo-Canadians in the Toronto area.
