Cheapest August car hire in Vancouver? Plus sight seeing tips
Anyone got any insider tips for hiring a 5 seater car in Vancouver. We are staying at the Pacific gateway in Richmond so off airport might be cheaper?
Plus, living in the frozen north of Prince George, we don't get to Van much. Did some of the touristy stuff already but anything anyone can recommend, I've already seen suspension bridge, grouse mountain sea to sky etc.
never made it to English bay or Granville market.
Two full days, zero children (crazy woman hallelujah dance!)
Oh and it'll be my 40th birthday ❤️
Thanks in advance

is this the Pacific Gateway Hotel just off the airport on Russ Baker Way?
Do you HAVE to rent a car?
The Skytrain from the airport will take you all the way downtown ............. buy a book of 2 zone fare tickets from lots of places (including the pharmacy on the ground floor of the Domestic Arrivals at the airport), and you can travel all over!
Otherwise ............. Granville Island is well worth a visit, go early to find the best parking, have a picnic sitting on the deck overlooking False Creek, take the little putt putt ferry over to the other shore, or up False Creek to the Science Centre
Steveston, a suburb of Richmond, is always an interesting place, still an active fishing harbour, with wonderful fish dishes available in any number of restaurants and cafes, plus the National Historic Site of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery
A good museum, IF you are interested, is the Museum of Anthropology out at UBC .... which is also an interesting place to visit in itself. The Vancouver Museum is also interesting
We always take our visitors to Lynn Canyon (NOT Capilano) ............ Lynn Canyon is a Provincial Park, has both a swinging suspension bridge over the creek into the forest. It only has a small cafe, no souvenir pushing.
Into Stanley Park ............ loads of things to do there. Park your car and walk around, then move the car to another parking spot. The Aquarium is fascinating.
there you are ...... just a few ideas.

Thanks scilly, we prefer to have a car as we are limited on time.
Food taken care of, whenever we are in can we have meals at Memphis Blues BBQ (west Broadway is our fave) and Tomahawk bbq (in North Van)
We are big on big food so both are perfect for us.
Our kids will be at camp so aiming for stuff slightly less childish than our normal trips 👍🏻
Thanks for the suggestions

Rent cycles and go around Stanley Park and all the way round False Creek to Spanish Banks. Great for working up an appetite!

ah .............. can't help you with "big" food ................ we're small meal eaters :-)
One place that might interest you is on the Vancouver side of the Oak St and Arthur Laing bridges ...........
Cravings Restaurant and Lounge
8808 Osler St, Vancouver, BC V6P 4G1
604-261-7779
It's at the corner of 72nd and Osler Street, just behind the Coast Hotel.
It has a good selection of beers, and the food is great ........... although we usually opt for the smaller ones, and refuse all starters and desserts!

Try price line or hotwire for cars, usually the cheapest rates offered. or expedia.ca if you don't want to get charged in USD. Expedia will charge in CAD on their .ca site but the don't tend to have as good of deals.
August is a high demand season, so don't expect too many deals if any.

I'd forget the car, the hassle of parking, paying to park everywhere, including hotels is a pain, not to mention finding a parking spot in August.
Step on/Step off trams and public transit make it a breeze to get around and probably save time over parking. Last time I wa sin Van, we paid $40 a day parking and left the car at the hotel and walked most places or got the tram.

Not sure if you would be interested in this .......... but the news today has been that the latest Mall will be opening on July 9
The first stage of the new "luxury" McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Centre Vancouver Airport will finally open on July 9 ........... it was supposed to open in early spring. It is two train stops from the airport, or entry from the road, and is based on an "English-style village"
