I go through most of the winter with just a hoodie in Vancouver, every few winters we do see some cold weather, but not enough to justify fancy heavy duty jackets.

Heaviest jacket I have is a wool coat, but its rarely worn, haven't worn it since winter 2012 when I was in Ontario.

mine's doing ten without any noticable drift of the down, all the cuff's and high wear areas are re-enforced, if it was cleaner I coudl sell it as new.. I would expect to easily get 20yrs out of it at this rate......

Don't want to give impression I regularly peruse Daily Fail site, but I hadn't heard of these coats, and found this when googling True cost of a Canada Goose coat? | Mail Online

Coyoty fur is amongst the best at creating the wind trap that makes a parka work....

When it cold enough to want a Canada Goose parka... I'd kill that Cyote myself and wraap around my head....

like it's hard to beat seal skin gloves for warmth...

Didnt Everest climbers use Wolverine on their mitts? I cant see anything wrong with fur being used as warmth providing materials, the farming methods may need to be improved but it's not different to other animals being farmed.

Where and what is the best place and time to buy a winter coat? At the moment the usual UK online stores have decent deals on warm North Face gear as it's out of season. I'm headed to Canada next week, would it work out cheaper to buy one there?

Cheers
I found it very cheap here compared to the UK, whether in the sale or not specifically for North Face. I panicked when I got here and spent $450 on a climb a mountain type TNF jacket. 7yrs later still good as new and so warm I can only wear it when it gets to -10c and I never wear anything more than a T-shirt under it.

On the coldest days I'm using a 10 year old down filled Cotton Traders coat. It was cheap, from the outlet near Salisbury. it's heavy as he'll now but I haven't found a replacement I can afford. If you see a coat you like and can afford it then just buy it.
