cats to canada

I am taking two cats to Ontario in February and was wondering if anyone has taken any over recently and if they had ,had to get them rabies shots?

As I want to get the pet passport but the Canadian embassy say that as England is a Rabies free country they don't need the shot but I'm not sure anyone got a insight on this I would be most grateful .

many thanks Nicola

If your cat is going to go outside when you are here then get the shot done anyway.

You're going to need them anyway do get them all done when you get the certificate of health, or whatever it's called, from the vets.

Also if your cat gets rabies then you might, so it's money well spent.

We brought our two cats over when we moved to Ontario 3 years ago. As part of the pet passport scheme, both cats had to have a rabies shot, followed by a blood test a few days later. They also had to be microchipped, have (anti)worming tablets and a fit to fly certificate. Not sure what the Canadian embassy would know about this though? The vet you use in the UK should have all the rules and regulations for a pet passport, and ensure all the procedures are carried out in the correct order.

Hope this helps!

Hi ya,

moved our two cats over to Alberta a month ago. Had to have rabies jabs 6 weeks or more prior to travel, all other vaccinations up to date and flea/worm treatment up to date.

Oh and obviously microchip's, we were told the passport was not necessary for leaving UK just vet certificate and Defra paperwork but it's advisable to get passports when you're in Canada in case you want to take them back.
