casual work, no work visa
hi,
im 40 so dont qualify for working holiday visa, i was planning on visiting canada this summer for maybe 4 months, is there any casual work i could pick up to keep me ticking over and to stop me spending alot of money as 4 months long time and canada not that cheap, was planning on staying in ontario and then moving to newfoundland where i have friend, i heard that southern ontario might be possability for work. I know working without work visa is illegal but i just want to do a little work for smallish money. I have been in canada before on working holiday visa and loved it. |
Re: casual work, no work visa
You have answered this yourself, it is illegal to work even casually on tourist visa. I am sure cic website will let you know if there is a visa that matches your requirements but somehow I doubt there is one.

Re: casual work, no work visa
Definition of ―Work‖ [R2]
―Work‖ is defined in the Regulations as an activity for which wages are paid or commission is earned, or that competes directly with activities of Canadian citizens or permanent residents in the Canadian labour market. ― Wages or commission‖ This includes salary or wages paid by an employer to an employee, remuneration or commission received for fulfilling a service contract, or any other situation where a foreign national receives payment for performing a service. What is an activity that ―competes directly‖? Officers should consider whether there is entry into the labour market. Questions to consider:  Will they be doing an activity that a Canadian or permanent resident should really have an opportunity to do?  Will they be engaging in a business activity that is competitive in the marketplace? |
Re: casual work, no work visa
When you get to immigration if you ask them this question, they should be able to help you. That's what they are there for.

Amazing how a simple question manages to bring out the tarring and feathering mob mentality on this board

Re: casual work, no work visa
To be perfecty honest I really couldnt give two hoots - There are under the table jobs wherever you go , always have been and always will be . Wether they are done by the original poster or someone else they will still be done and still be done under the table

Re: casual work, no work visa
Fine, but no doubt if you injured on the job, or got laid off, you would be at the trough expecting your share of free medical or unemployment benefits. After all, "under the table" earnings are also under the radar as far as income tax is concerned.

Ahhhhhhh, the sweet, sickly aroma that can only be the finest Eau de Sanctimony.
I hope nobody on replying on this thread has ever paid cash to someone, say a cleaner, or a window cleaner, or to a tradesman for a 'little job'... |
