Wouldn't you get a better exchange rate if you use a currency house. I'm not sure why oodles of cash on you is a good thing especially when it's relatively easy to set bank accounts up? I would hate the risk of carrying so much money in too- what if it gets stolen?

The declaration thing is only for the purposes of the money laundering legislation. If you have a million in cash they wont tax you on it, you just need to declare it. Of course if its the proceeds of your meth lab operation then there may be some consequences...

The 10k is per person IIRC.

well seeing as the original question has been deleted, I think we should all use our imagination as to what it was.

Obviously it involved a large amount of money, maybe a bodily orifice or two?

The FX for cash is not as good as it is for non cash as you say, the cheque rate is usually better by at least 2c.

The poster wanted to bring 20,000 dollars in cash on person. I just thought a bank with a currency exchange house would be better...

That is sure to arouse interest at point of entry. Undoubtedly a crazy thing to do unless it is from dubious sources or trying to hide it from the tax authorities.
