Carpentry Apprenticeships Toronto!
Hi All
I have been a random viewer to this site since moving to Vancouver from the UK nine months ago so a big hello to everyone! I thought it was about to time register as I was after some advice about Toronto and possible employment opportunites for myself. 1) The first question would be want is it like living in Toronto as an ex pat? What type of outdoor recreation is available? How cold does it get in winter and does Toronto feel a safe place to live? Just general queries really! My wife has had a job offer and it is possible we could be moving to Toronto in September. I have always wanted to train as a carpenter but up until now this has not been possible. 2) So my second question would be how realistic is it to achieve this in Toronto? I am 36 years old and when I was younger laboured for builders/carpenters. I do not have any formal UK trade qualifications. From the information I have gained it looks like I need to find an employer before becoming an apprentice. Is this the only way and if so are there any useful sites that I could contact now to get the process rolling? Advice from anyone who has been through this process or carpenters in Toronto would be most welcome. Thanks Col |

Start by looking at the Red Seal website. This is the best place to start.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
First thing to check is what visa will your wife be on, and what is her job? Then we can tell you if you'd be able to work or not. :) |
Re: Carpentry Apprenticeships Toronto!
Hi, my wife works for a pharmacetacal company. We both have three year work visas and have applied for PR. We have been told that this process can take about 18 months. We do not believe there will be any issues as my wife has been employed by a North American Company.
My visa allows me to work in any field and study for any length of time. Ideally, I would like to start an apprenticeship whilst on my work visa as I know it takes minimum four years to complete an apprenticeship. I hope this would not cause any problems. |
