Carla Hamolka being released
This tragedy happened way before we even dreamed of moving to canada, but since we moved here, we have read up on and followed the news and the incident very closely. She is back in the news again, and that is because she is going to be freed soon, from the Joliette prison in Quebec that she has been held up at.
What she did with paul bernardo, was dispicable, and she should have been locked up for life really. Just goes to prove that other thread wrong, about crime in Canada. Looking at her, would you have thought she is the kind of person that would have taken part in that kind of hideous crime? I know for sure that we won't like her in her neighbourhood. As I was typing this, 2 women were shot near yorkdale mall in Toronto, according to global news, and also there was a child abduction attempt on a 4yr old child, the mother screamed and yanked the kid off the white middle aged man, just in time. Now that is really scary, this happened at a wal-mart store. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew..._3/?hub=Canada |
Re: Carla Hamolka being released
I don't think Karla Homolka would have given testimony against Paul Homolka unless she'd been offered the possibility of parole. Still, I think it's too early to let her out. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if someone tried to off her -- I think she'd be safer in jail.
Are the transcripts on the trial still sealed? |

Now that is really scary, this happened at a wal-mart store. I think they should let her go. It may have been a bad deal the government made but, if they're to make deals, they should stand by them. I don't think cases such as the Holmoka one indicate anything about crime in general; every generation in every country has a few such monsters. I assume here that coming from the same country as Fred West doesn't make you want to bury people in your garden. A couple of questions, you mentioned recently stopping someone from filming your daughter's swimming class, was this a group lesson and was that person a close relative of one of the children ? I would think that, if it was a private lesson and the camera person wandered in alone, there'd be cause for concern, but otherwise it seems overly cautious and intrusive upon the simple pleasure of the person with the camera. Why is it scary that a potential abduction should happen at WalMart ? No one wants children to be abducted but, if it's going to happen to someone, surely WalMart shoppers are, at least, as deserving as anyone. |
Re: Carla Hamolka being released
I dont understand why people are having such an outcry about the whole situation. The fact is they made a deal with her. The woman is hated that much i doubt very much that she will live long anyway....never mind her being given another opportunity to offend....people will be watching her like a hawk.
I can't even begin to imagine what the families feel like. I hope they have managed to find a way to get their heads around it all. Its not Karla you need to be worried about....its the devil you don't know...

Are the transcripts on the trial still sealed? What amazes me even today is how her father and mother standby her and defend her actions and release even though she was instrumental in the rape and murder of their other daughter, Kara's sister. I don't know if the tapes are still sealed. |

Re: Carla Hamolka being released
There was an article about her in the Vancouver Sun yesterday with a picture of her and her parents when they visited her earlier in the year. I just couldn't understand how the parents could forgive her for killing those young girls, including their daughter!! Her prison girlfriend also said that Karla's not remorseful about her sister's death. She wasn't convicted of her sister's murder, but she did it, no one doubts that.
I think people are just scared or angry and don't want her moving into her neighbourhood. I don't blame them. I just hope she doesn't think moving away from the east coast to the west coast will help her because she's further from Ontario. I don't want her living near me. She probably would be safer in prison. |
Re: Carla Hamolka being released
What she and her husband did was horrific, but I doubt she woulld have done it on her own without his influence. In any case, she has served her time and there isn't anything anyone can do about that now. They want to place restrictions on her, but there really isn't any need. There is no way she can ever lead a normal life again and probably won't even be able to get a job with her record. What company will hire her once they know about her record? She will be hounded by those who hate her all her life and as someone else said, probably will be murdered by someone for her past deeds. He life will be hell and she probably would be better off in jail than released.

Re: Carla Hamolka being released
Are you happy for her to move to Scarborough then, living down the street for you, and living off tax payers money? Like you said, no one is going to employ her, unless she gets a new identity, and a new look.
How many Karla's are out there still, doing the same sort of things with their boyfriend's and partners, and living next door to most people? It's a scary thought really. I remember back in the UK, when they started digging out all those bodies from Fred West's house, the numbers kept going on and on. Just goes to show, big city or surburbia, crimes like this can happen anywhere. So those that say I don't want to live amongst certain kind of people because they are perceived as dangerous, should think again, because this can happen anywhere, be it oakville, richmond hill, the beaches, little towns, or right downtown. Where do you find most grow-ops, peadophiles? Little towns and surburbia. I'll rather Karla was locked up still, because listening to people that shared a prison with her yesterday, she is an evil person, with no remorse, and when crossed, can get nasty.

What is the connection between grow-ops and paedophiles ? |
Re: Carla Hamolka being released
Sounds like you don't like our Belinda? To answer your last question there, they are both crimes, that happen to take place mostly in quiet surburbia neighbourhoods, where everyone thinks they are safe.

Obviously I don't think paeophilia and agriculture are crimes that can reasonably be equated. Do you suppose that reefer madness drives paedophiles and, if so, do you have any examples ? As far as I know the only identifiable group in which there's a high incidence of paedophilia is Catholic priests, not a group well known for being stoners. I don't think grow-ops are especially a feature of suburban neighbourhoods, I know our weed comes from an industrial estate and that Crown lands are a common location for plants. How do you know that grow-ops are a feature of the 'burbs ? In what way do you think that people growing marijuana makes a neighbourhood unsafe ? |

dbd33.....most grow-op burst that you see here in ontario on TV, are usually in surburbia, big houses that some people don't even live in. Your weed might come from an industrial estate, but where is it being grown?
