Car Shopping in Edmonton
 

Hi all

We have just moved to Sherwood Park near Edmonton. My Husband earns a decent wage and has been here just over 2 months he went car shopping today and was told they would give him credit but only on 1 specific car at the garage.

My Husband was interested in Jeeps/Dodge Caravans/Honda CRV size vehicles but was informed that because he's new to Canada could only get credit on smaller size/engine cars.

The specific one they were trying to sell him was a chrysler sebring and was the only one they would offer credit on - has anyone else come across this?
Sounds a bit dodgy to me!

they just want rid of all the crap on their lots...

colleague of mine went to Honda looking for a CR-V and was told they'd only be able to get her a finance deal on a Civic (there were tonnes of Civics on the lot and not many CR-V's) so she told them to stuff it and went to Toyota to get a Rav-4

i'd just go somewhere else

They are just trying to shift the cars nobody wants on to you.

Any good dealer will be able to sell you your car of choice. Go Auto own dealerships for just about every brand of car. They will be able to get you finance, Scotia Bank are the first choice with most dealers as they provide deals to expats with little or no credit.

PM me and i will give you a contact name for nissan in sherwood park as well.

The bigger deposit you can put down will help you, however you will not get the best rates as you have little or no credit yet.

That being said, with Go Auto we got 0% finance after only a few weeks in Canada as they took our UK credit history into account.

I found Go auto to be overpriced for the age/mileage of the cars,most of the cars they had when I looked at minivans a couple of months ago were scratched,dented,and dinged.
I ended up just saving $3000 then spotted a decent Caravan at JJ truck and auto's,was the same age,same mileage as one I seen at Go Auto,and Go Auto wanted $10,000+fees for it!

Thanks everyone will look into the ones you have recommended.Even if e buy something to tide us over for the first 6-1 months until we improve our credit its got to beat renting from Enterprise from much longer although their rates aren't bad we are just wasting money
