Can anyone recommend a guide over here similar to the Parkers guide in the UK for guidance on Used car prices (buying and selling)

In Ontario if that makes a difference ?

I have seen something! A little tiddly thing! I don't know what it's called though sorry - can you not just cruise the classifieds and see what goes for what? That what hubby does and we usually end up paying less for something than the next person i.e. a 1998 Eddie Bauer Expedition for $9,000 in mint condition :cool:

There is something called the 'Canadian Black Book' that gives used price values. You can link to it from the 'appraise trade in' link on several manufacturer's websites. Like Toyota for instance....

If you buy a used car in Ontario, the government levies sales tax on it based on some nominal value. I would imagine those values are published somewhere and would constitute a price guide.

Cheers all, a trip to Chapters is due.

Assume the G-Man puts the tax on the buyer when he buys his ticket for the vehicle ? but how do they know how much you paid for the car to calculate tax or do they assume a standard value based on model / age / etc

So if the same car is sold 10 times the Government gets tax on that car
10 times ???....................Jeeeezzzz and people on here go on about Rip

Thanks for that saved me $9.95 from a previous link. Guess these "Blacvk Book" prices are your "worst case" so to speak. i.e. From the dealer so he can maximise his profit when selling on. Assume pricing will be higher if selling private. Will check autotrader to confirm.

Yup.

They check your claimed price against their list and charge the tax on the higher number; that's why I think there must be a master list of prices.

Yup. That, in part, is why we still have US plates.

slightly off thread, sorry, but on general theme, any one any knowledge of auctions, ie, do they operate in canada along the same lines and are they full of the canadian equivilent:- large men in sheepskin jackets eating bacon butties with copies of the sun rolled under their tattooed arms.
