car insurance

after being in canada for year finally got round to first car, and insurance was expensive but not to much trouble.

we were recommended a firm called JDR in St Albert, they have dealt with uk drivers before so know all the ropes and usually use ING

unfortunately we are still waiting for our no claims paperwork (yes yes we know weve had a year) but our ins in uk emailed a letter with details until the official stuff comes thru. we are paying the higher rate but it will decrease in a week or so when they have all of it.

from the research we did they certainly were very helpful, friendly and the est price we could get from asking around.
another friend struggled and paid 5000 dollars for a used ford escape, weve got same car for 1700 dollars

i hope this helps someone

Re: car insurance

Hi there,

We got a quote online for a Ford Escape and it was $7,000, but a friend recommended Atlantic Insurance in New Glasgow and it came in at $832!!!!!!!!! What a difference eh. I don't know if they only insure cars in the Maritimes but it is worth giving them a call.
First get your proof of no claims form the UK as it makes all the difference.

I'm glad I'm in Saskatchewan; the online price quote is about $1200 a year for a brand-new Impreza with no no-claims bonus at all.

Though the downside is there's apparently only a 20% discount for years of not crashing.
