Car hire
Hi all
I live in Alberta and my father is visiting from England. We'd like to go on a road trip towards Vancouver. Does anybody know of a car rental firm that does NOT charge for out if province mileage. Thanks |
Re: Car hire
Most of the 'big names' have unlimited millage. I've always used Alamo & often taken their vehicles to the Moon & back in terms of millage. Chances are the smaller outfits may sting you over a certain millage but taking a vehicle out of Province shouldn't be an issue, even for Rent a Wreck type Companies? With the bigger Companies you can drive into & out The States no problem whatsoever.

Re: Car hire
The last time I rented a vehicle in Calgary it was from Budget and they charged me $10 a day "Out of Province Charge". I also had to chase then to get a proper breakdown of all the extras on the bill like airport fees and so on.
If you Google "renting a car a Calgary Airport" you should get various comparisons and you can read the fine print which tells you all the additional costs. |

As I mentioned, I've always found Alamo fine in terms of cost comparison & flexibility of use. Aftercare wasn't too awful on the couple of times when I've had a problem with a vehicle - Apart from the guy who brought a replacement vehicle to me near Kamloops & wanted to charge me for the gas I'd used as the new vehicle had a full tank. I told him to get lost unless he was going to compensate me for my inconvenience. No more was said on the subject. :sneaky: Something that should be considered when hiring from one of the smaller companies. Budget hire can sometimes mean Budget cover when things go wrong. Not to mention the potential extra charges mentioned. The OP needs to do a few comparisons & work out who has the best deal for his needs. The biggest con in my opinion, is the excess charge they hit you for a one way trip on the pretence "we have to ship the vehicle back." As I remember, the last three vehicles I've rented in Calgary had SK, BC & ON plates respectively! Blows that argument out the water. |

Whilst they can obviously check any excess millage you may have done, how do they know if you've sneaked across the border into BC for example?
