Canadian TV

You can't really compare canadian TV to the UK, but i must admit a little bit of effort is made to show what they think is best here in Ontario, if not canada.
For me, i enjoy quite a few progs on TV, that are not british, and the ocassional british shows on TVO, and SHOWCASE. The list goes like this:

Las vegas, The apprentice, Zoe Busiek, 1-800 missing, Without a trace, ER, Third watch, Global news, cbc news, While you were out, house hunters, clean sweep, trading spaces, curb appeal, loft ideas, just to name a few.

What shows do you lot enjoy watching?

:D :cool: :D

this is wonderland and this hour has 22 minutes are good
but eleventh hour is the best and would make it in the uk.. good scripts anc characters

funniest USA progs are queer eye for the straight guy and average joe, you have to watch them with someone and "join" in the discussion

the national is the best news prog, far more intelligent and balanced than that neoconpap that comes from us.

I'm a bit bored of the home redo programs but holmes on homes is good from a diy learing perspective.

Hello there,

I can see the 11th hour making it in the UK, probably on channel 4. I must admit am a closet watcher of QEFTSG, am more than an average joe
:D , but watch it with the missus, and we thought the geezer from boston should have won the last one, am glad the other guy dumped her on their honeymoon though :rolleyes:

Adam has been brought back from the first one, but am sure the girls are only after his money, since it came out that he is loaded. HOH is good, so is real renos. I don't know about this old house though.

Oh.....snakes and ladders, anyone been watching that? The fifth estate is alright sometimes.

I love Law and Order and CSI Miami and the other one.

Also a BIG fan of the Apprentice. Watching American Idol right now (eek)!!

I like "what not to wear" on TLC, but the UK one is better. Also While you were out, AVerage Joe, The Bachelor/ette

Sex and the City, the Simpsons, King of the Hill

Even though I don't like to admit it I have been known to watch "Dr Phil!!

I stopped regularly watching television shortly after coming to Canada. I don't understand all of the channels. I can't find what I want to watch because there are too many channels that I have never heard of. I know what some of the channels are, but then there are dozens of channels that are random letters: CKTY or something like that. Sometimes 10 channels show the same thing. Nor can I remember what channels I pay for and what I don't. All I can remember is that BBC is channel 501 and CNN is channel 500.

My wife, an American, is completely comfortable with the television chaos and does nearly all the watching.

I do watch the BBC news quite a bit and I have seen that show with Donald Trump a few times. Can't stand the garbage my wife watches: nonsense about sororities and things like that.

The reason is because each network has stations in the major cities so some programs are the same but some shown at different times because of the time zones.

i.e

CBCHAL = Canadian Broadcasting Corp - Halifax Studio
CBCMO = " " " - Montreal "
CBCTOR = " " " - Toronto "
CBCOTT = " " " - Ottawa "
CBCREG = " " " - Regina "
CBCCAL = " " " - Calgary "
CBCEDM = " " " - Edmonton "

and so on

TV

First ever post! What a great forum this is - I can't believe I never found it before.

Anyway, I've been here 5 years and got used to the plethora of TV channels pretty quickly. I soon learned that my favourites shows were scattered around TVO, Showcase, PBS and A&E.

Then 2 years ago we got digital cable, I got BBC Canada, BBC Kids (Top Of The Pops and Dr. Who - awesome! heh heh) Fox Sports World (for the footie) and I've been a very happy lad since then! I've even managed to get my Canadian wife hooked on Eastenders!

Hello there,

Welcome to the forum Jon, i feel priviledge to have your first ever post on my thread
:D :cool: The room gets serious most of the time, as people moving over to canada ask various questions which we are all very happy to answer.

I just thought i'll inject some light hearted topic into the room. I use to watch A&E, but it does get a bit gory sometimes when they are showing murders and stuff. Sportsnet shows all the English footie on saturday, and discovery canada is interesting most of the time :cool:

cheers

Usually two prem games on a Saturday on Sportsnet (regular cable option), usually ManU and Arsenal, with occasional others, depending who is at / near the top.

Sportsnet is also carrying the FA cup this year

TSN (also regular cable) has Champions league, usually one game per matchday, also some UEFA cup, but its hit and miss.

Digital cable / satelite caries Fox sports world, that carries a lot more games, midweek etc, as well as pay per view. Personally I dont bother with digital, with regular cables I have too many chanels with nothing worth watching as it is, why pay for more? Its just TV after all.

Besides, its depressing enough to watch LFC at the moment!

As far as the rest of the thread goes, I dont think there is anything I am particullarly devoted too. 6 Feet Under on Showcase was a must see, so was "The Office" teaser...does anyone know if they are going to carry the rest of the seasons? I Dont have BBC Canada.

Rest of it is a bunch of violent, fear based crap, or "reality" drivel, so I stopped watching. Some of the comedies are good, 22 minutes, Made in Canada (sadly no more!), and I loved "Talking to Americans" although one hour is probably enough. Of course there are endless Simpsons on the various chanels, which pass the time. Someone mentioned Holmes on Homes...I find that educational...my wife likes to watch for the substandard bits and say "Oooh, that looks like our place":)

I wish I could get into Hockey, theres hours and hours and hours of coverage of that:)

They showed three episodes on Showcase here after it won the bookends, and I think they said they were going to show both series at a later date, but since then I've heard nothing, and the website is bugger all use of course.

Ah, Father Ted, what a great show, I have seen it shown here on the comedy chanel, but not for a while. I loved the one where Ted is explaining to Dougal the difference between "Small" and "Far Away"."..Look Ted, look at them tiny cows...." ****, I nearly pissed myself!

Blackadder is sorely missed as well.

Thanks for the kind offer of the disks, unfortunatley my DVD player cant cope with new formats or UK stuff:(, so I will have to wait for the canadian networks to catch up!

Iain
