Hi, everyone here.

I immigrated to Canada in 2002. Got my PR card, after one month living in Canada, I miss my friends and family so badly – so I moved back home.

Now someone just told me – If I’m not going back to Canada within 2 years (start calculation from the day I left), that means I forfeit the right. I will not able to get back there anymore. Is that true? Although time to time I’m back there for a couple of day’s holiday. Any suggestion?

You have to be in Canada for 730 days out of 5 years to keep residency. This works out to two years in every five.

If you no longer want to live in Canada, which it seems from your actions you dont, what does it matter?

If you do still want to live here permanently, you have to meet the residency requirement of being here 730 days out of 5 years.

If you give up your PR, I dont think there is anything against you still visiting.

Once you have three years residency out of four, you can apply for Citizenship, which means you can then leave indefinately, and still return to Canada at a later date.
