I went to WalMart and had a choice of four providers in Calgary, Rogers, Fido, Bell and another I don't remember. Fido was 20c a call locally cheaper than the remainder.

Can you go into Walmart and buy just the sim card with, say, $20 already prepaid on it? That's all I really need.

I believe Rogers is the only provider that uses SIM cards so you would have to go to Rogers, as I have already said my friend said it cost her $10 for the SIM card the other week.

Are Roger SIM cards available from everywhere or do you have to go to one of their own shops?

I should think they are only available in their shops, but their shops are everywhere - have you googled the question?

I only tried WalMart, there are small centre ailes shops in most malls you go to with all the mobile providers that will be able to help you. As I said I went to Walmart.
