Hello, we got our jabs double in Canada in June, we have been in Greece for over a month and are entering the UK from Greece. Do we just need to quarantine for the 2 days as required by the Amber guidelines? We are so confused!!

Canadian vaccine doesn't appear to be recognised currently for entering the UK.

Approved vaccines

You must have been fully vaccinated under one of the following programmes:

• UK vaccination programme, approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
• UK vaccine programme overseas, approved by the MHRA
• an approved vaccination programme in Europe or the USA – not all are recognised in England

Therefore, the not fully vaccinated rules apply for arriving from an amber list country:

• quarantine on arrival at home or in the place you’re staying
• take a day 2 test after you arrive in England – on or before day 2
• take a day 8 test after you arrive in England – on or after day 8

You can also do a day 5 "test and release" test if you wish.

Canada isn't on the Amber\double vaccine list like EU and US. So you may have to quarantine 10 days. Dunno what difference the month in Greece will have made. Also note that if like many in Canada you have received a mix of vaccines that doesn't count as fully vaccinated by the UK authorities. Has to be two of the same. (Nonsensically).

The rules state:

What to do before and after you arrive in England if you’ve been in an amber list country in the 10 days before you arrive.

So a month (or a day) in amber list Greece means the amber rules apply. The rules also say:The rules you must follow depend on which countries or territories you’ve been in or travelled through in the 10 days before you arrive in England, as well as the one you’re travelling from.

For example, if you travel from an amber list country but have been in a red list country in the 10 days before you arrive in England, you must follow rules for red list countries.

It seems to me that Canada is getting very short shrift from the UK, Her Majesty may not be amused!

There's a lot of vaccine mis-trust / non-recognition between countries making life unnecessarily difficult for travellers. And that's before considering the frequent rule changes - once (if) you've worked out what the rules are. Not that the rules apply to everybody of course, but that's a different discussion.
