I've got used to delivery promises not being met (several times in this case); it's the blatant lies I can't stand. We were told several weeks ago that our custom sofa had arrived at the store and would be delivered the following Thursday. That became the following Thursday, which became today, which became next Thursday. Today's little chat revealed that the sofa is in Montreal and is, er, not quite finished yet.

Not sure, but the salespeople are definitely stalkers, when we first arrived, we used to play 'try and lose the salesperson' by just walking around the store, impossible, but it brightened up the kids boring shopping trip.

Canadian furniture stores remind me of being on the Serengeti plains with lots of vultures hanging around, though I like birds but not those; the only decent sales person I have ever had was a lady, originally from Trinidad, at The Bay-completely different to all the others.

We certainly found Lay-Z-Boy very vague on which week we might expect the sofa/recliner/other stuff. However once it was at the store, firming up actual delivery date was much easier.
The really good people to deal with were the woodwork shop associated with the local, apologies for the politically incorrect term, mental hospital. They turned out fantastic work at a very good price until they were shutdown because apparently it's not the done thing these days to exclude anyone from the mainstream workplace.
On the other hand the furniture restoration guy that refurbished 7 antique dining chairs that Mrs AX had inherited & supplied a table has been nothing short of a nightmare to deal with. 4 months for partial delivery, 2 months to agree to come back to complete and fix the table and tonight will be the 3rd visit in 2 weeks as he attempts to get it all finished. Last night he proved that even the professionals should measure twice and cut once!
I miss IKEA though. The faintly pornographic names for everything always made me smile. 'Spong' chairs anyone?

Just tell the salesperson you deal with "pick a name of someone who is off that day." Or "someone who is obviously busy with someone else at the moment."

Bestbuy is another current bugbear. If they, as they so quickly and repeatedly point out, don't work on commission, why do they try so desperately, desperately hard to flog you extended warranties? And they all use the same patter.

I cant think of a single good reason to buy an extended warranty under any normal circumstances TBH. The only one I ever go was on a sears vacuum where the cost of the warranty (which included regular maintenance at that time) was actually less than the cost of changing the HEPA filters and belts after the appointed periods, so it saved money without it having to break down.
They have changed policies since then I believe.
