It doesn't have to be a Canadian or UK company. For example, there are US companies that have offices in the UK and Canada. I work for one. You could join the UK branch and try to get transferred to a Canadian branch. However, this is probably not the best route. As others have said, you can still go the TWP route in IT. Check out http://www.monster.ca and http://www.dice.com.
