Question Canadian business partner

Greetings,

As you may well have seen that we have made several postings on this site and are currently investigating our immigration options. At this point in time we are VERY interested in Canada. We currently live in South Africa and both my wife & I run our own small businesses.

From our research to-date it would seem that in order to accelerate the immigration process it is best to have an offer of employment in Canada. This is very much a chicken & egg scenario as the response we have received to-date from certain recruitment agencies is that it very difficult to get employment offers without the legal right to work in Canada. To strengthen your immigration application to Canada a big part is if you have an offer of employment.

We have also heard that certain areas of Canada are currently in recession and this has been said that it is due to the weakening US $. It seems that Canada has a strong policy to protect the Canadian citizens from loss of job opportunities, which is great but makes it very tough for potential immigrants.

As an alternative we would like to explore the possibility of setting up a business in Canada with a Canadian partner and research the market potential & immigration side of this route. Although our business is growing we do not have the turnover required by the Canadian Gov. to immigrate under the “entrepreneur status, which requires your business to have had a turnover of CD $ 800 K, which as an approximate equates to SA Rand 3.6 M.

Our company has been in operation for two years and our core business is audio productions. In our location of Johannesburg there are hundreds of small recording studios with production capabilities and therefore our competitors are numerous.

Our business is growing & has recently been awarded a production contract for one of the largest local banks. Our focus is to develop concepts for certain business arenas and take these concepts to the corporate world and therefore create a certain niche market in the process.

We would like to explore the possibility of attracting a Canadian partner to develop a similar approach to the Canadian market place. Obviously there are certain factors to the whole exercise, such as;

1. Location of the business in Canada
2. Exposure to attract a Canadian partner (where to advertise for this etc.)
3. The immigration criteria in such an exercise

We would be most grateful if anyone could offer their comments on this or (preferably) has had any experience with such scenarios. Thanks for reading this post and to those that reply.

Hope you all have a great weekend. Campbell.
