Canadian Bank Accounts For Temp Residence
Does anyone have any tips on the best Canadian bank to go with for a debit card? We will only be there for a year and will have to wait until we arrive so we can go into the bank in person to open the account.. so what information should we bring with us from the UK?
We will probably want a joint account, but it should be fairly easy to transfer a few thousand from our UK banks accounts to a Canadian one for free, when it's open right?

Going by posts over the last couple of years, it does seem less problematic than it used to be, but experiences are still mixed.
I had banks insisting on a PR Card, at different stages from 2004-07, before giving me an account even though I owned two properties here, had a rental income, had property taxes (and other household bills) in my name, was married to a Canadian and I had actually been in Canada, with my wife - all legally - for all that time.
