He's a knob, not in the remotest sense funny. Same goes for that little gnome like fellow that jumps up and down a lot.

How long you been here?

Mercer irritated the crap out me until two years ago - he hit the right note in Bon Cop, Bad Cop as the hockey pundit - he played an irritating git with a loud tie that hates Quebec and European players, not too hard to guess who it was based on.

Still not so sure on the hoppy gnome ...

I don't think he's that bad - kind of like jon stewart with a much lower hit rate. I can't say I ever watch his show or am even inclined to do so either. As for a gnome like fellow that jumps about a lot - never seen him but you make it sound almost funny in your description

In the same vein as canadian as inserting the word 'buddy' into all sorts of sentences.

OK - as Canadian as:

Calling a teabag in a cup of microwaved water tea!
Watering a baseball cap with fuzzy moose antlers.
Never tying your laces.
Calling jello with grated carrots in it a "salad dish"
Calling jello with instant whipped cream topping "trifle"
Mullets
Having a national sport that we can never win at (though that counts for the Brits too - except for the last eight games)
