Default Canada PR Card

I landed in Canada as a permanent resident on June 12, 2002 and left on June 16, 2002 to settle pertinent matters in my country of birth. I intend to go back to Canada before the end of 2003, and from then on start residing for good.

I am still not a holder of the PR Card when I left Canada. Based on the new immigration law, all residents who landed in Canada in Y2002 should apply for the PR Card from October 15, 2002 to November 30, 2002. My question is: Can I apply for the PR Card anytime in Y2003?

Thank you.

Yes, you may apply past your schedule, after you return to Canada.

Hello Andrew,

I just thought about this question. Since I stayed for only 4 days in Canada (from landing to departure back to country of birth), would I be asked by the Canadian Immigration Officer about the short stay? Is there anything to prepare for in going back to Canada? Is this a potential problem for me although I intend to go back for good in Canada by year 2003?

Again, thanks for assisting.

Have a nice day!

Allan

It won't be a problem as long as you can still meet 2/5 residency obligation.
