You caught the essences of Hamtown for sure. Where did you come from? Hamtown compares to industrial yorkshire before they cleaned it up.

Thanks for those. I'd always heard that Hamilton was a little, erm.... "shabby", but it's interesting to see the reality.

Looks like many other industrial towns that have fallen on hard times.

Very interesting photos - a real eye opener.
Are there any other areas like this in Canada?

Any major city in Canada is going to have areas like this.

I have bounced in Hamilton (a.k.a. The Arsehole of Canada) three times in my life. The second time was on a Westjet flight - and the co-pilot was robbed in the lobby! Nice pics though - remind me of Dorothea Lange's depression era photographs.

I doubt it. Not on that scale. There are not that many large cities with a knackered heavy industry sector. Most cities will have bits that look like that (eg East Hastings in Vancouver, the older bits of Gatineau, Verdun, Trois Rivieres, Niagara Falls and most of Mississauga).

this is what is wrong with changing coutries and the grass is greener.

I feel these pictures that he posted really do represent Hamilton ( having lived there 4 years- hubby born and raised there and hubby's whole family are rotting there as we speak).

Yet doing some recon in the web I find this:

http://www.tourismhamilton.com/ take a look at the pics and videos - completely different.

I think this shows we should really think and check before we jump to greener grass IMO. Lol as a ping ponger myself - i have not right to talk tho

Not the sort of place you daydream raising your kids.
