I suggested Nottingham, because it's a good drive for the people up north, A1,M1, I think? Good roads from the south, Watford, again M1? and as for the midlands, the M42 takes you straight there. We had a visit to Nottigham, before christmas and there is loads to do in the city and out. Could even meet at the Robin Hood tree, which is just north of Nott, great park, walks, cafe, then into Nott for eats and a pint?

We have a caravan, so any weekend is good for us in April. So here are some weekends we have free, I will just put the Saturday's date for the weekend.
April 14th,21st,28th, then May 12th 19th.

thanks again to you all,
Carl:eek:

Hi all,
if you are looking for the hood tree, it's called the Major Oak and it's about half an hour from Notts. I put a search in on google and came up with loads of info. It does mention that it is free,

The Major Oak is free and easy to reach, 15 minutes along a footpath, just North of Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, England. Also has free parking?

Please let me know what you are thinking and suggestions to other places.

Like steve has said, let me know what you think about getting there?

Thanks again,
Carl:thumbup:

Hi all,

Just got back from a few days in Cornwall, last trip down there I think :( as were hoping to land in the next month or so as soon as the PPR arrives. Now, with regards a meet up, we'd come along, anywhere around the midlands is fine with or without a caravan. Only prob is were deff heading to Revy in mid Apr to catch up with the builder and sort my new business venture out. So, might not be around anyway and were leaving booking the tickets to the last minute as we'll land if the PPR comes in time. We've been to Canada over 10 times in the last 12yrs or so.

Cheers,
Andy & Jackie

Hi Andy and Jackie,
Good idea that, try and see as much as UK before your off.

You are going to be busy then, next few weeks, where you going to settle in Canada?

I have put a few dates up on this post, so could you all let me know when is good for you, just give me some idea about dates, need dates:eek: . Could PM me or post on this thread. I am putting a list together of how's interested, where they are coming from and dates they can make it.

I have a feeling, this will be the first of many meet-ups. When we have the first date, I will post it on the Calandar in the meet up section of forum?
Cheers again,
Carl:thumbsup:

Hi all

Think the date thing is going to be a bit of a headache! Would probably prefer to keep away from the Easter weekend & bank holidays for travelling! We can make any date with some notice.

As we are coming from North Shields we would probably make a weekend of it anyway, whether we meet for a few hours or an overnight do (drinky poohs & big eats), probably stop in a Travelodge or something. Nottingham seems to be ok, pretty central.

Got a brother in Ontario, been to visit about 4 or 5 times 4/6 weeks at a time. Been over to Nova Scotia twice & fell in love with the place. Can't wait to get back!!

Just myself & wife, no kids.

Hope we can sort something out to everyone's liking.

28th April & Nottingham works for me, I'll be coming on my own as there's no OH emigrating with me :( I'd probably like to stay overnight if it works out a good day/evening so if anyone else is planning on staying overnight maybe you could post the B&B/hotel you're staying at so singletons like me will know where to stay

Hi Carl

Sorry - we chat about arranging a meet and as I have been otherwise engaged all day haven't done anything to help you guys :o

April 28th is ok - just have to work out the logistics of it - maybe going to Lincoln for a farewell doo for one of the Oz forum I have befriended. But if it is an afternoon going into evening I could come to Nottingham and then onto to Lincoln.

My only question now is - how far is it between the two ?????

PS - have to come if Flossie is coming and mkmurrays (although they fly out on APril 29th)

Hi Guys

Carl and i have agreed the date will be 28th April and we are making the venue Nottingham. Provisionally we are making the major oak a 2pm meet, then depending on how many people are coming either a sit down meal at a local beefeater/pub or just drinks in the evening if all interested parties could please let us know who you are and how many people would be in your party. That way we can decide on meal or drink obviously if there are large amounts of people coming a sit down meal may not be practical. Could you also let us know wether you will be caravaning/camping or wether you are looking at B&B or going home straight after. Please could you PM Carl with your answers then we can liase between ourselves. I look forward to seeing you all

Regards

Steve:thumbsup:

Re: Canada meet up in UK

Hi folks,

as Steve has said, all go for the 28th April. Meet about 2ish in the car park at the Major Oak site. It's at Edwinstowe on the A6075. If coming from Nott, you will need the A614. If I can remember it's about half hour drive from Nottingham, so it might be better to arrange the B&B near to the village of Edwinstowe, or Mansfield, Lincoln, because these towns are closer to the venue.

The Gibbo family (us) will be caravaning at a site about 10 mins up the road from the Major Oak, campsite address;http://www.sherwoodforestholidaypark.co.uk/

There a quite a few pubs in the area, but will find out some more details of the one we used the last time we went to the Major Oak, because it was good grub, and pint and large enough for us to meet. I was wondering if it would be best to arrange our own meals there, then have a few drinks after? Any idea's welcome?

At the venue, large free car park, in door section (£2 entry), walks, picnic area's, the oak tree, cafe.
we were thinking of making a sign, and putting it up by our car, so we know how and where to meet? Or did you all fancy wearing a flower, or something to recognize each other:eek: :o

There are quite a few families that can't make the 28th.

I am thinking of arranging another meet for those people on the 14th of April, in the Midland/Birmingham area.We would like to go to the two meetings. Maybe for a afternoon/evening meet, because there are a few people flying and this might be the last chance to meet up with them?

Anybody interested please let me know, many thanks.

Thanks for now,
regards to all,
Carl

Hiya
Not yet sure if we will be able to make this  - will it be ok to come along at last minute if we can?. It's just that the Friday is MILs birthday and Sunday is Jim's birthday so we may well be at the A1 Grand Prix at Brands Hatch and might be a little difficult to get to Nottingham in between! We'll be following with interest though.
Cheers

Hi novaboy, we are struggling to find rooms at the moment there are 2 hotels in the village where we are meeting up The forest lodge hotel, which looks full at the moment and the black swan hotel which has 1 twin room left.

I am looking at hotels in Mansfield which is the next town along at the moment.

So far
gadget family is in the black swan
and provisionally purple80 and myself are in the Forest lodge although i am trying to tie down a double for myself and my wife because like you we will stay on the friday and saturday.

If i find any other hotels i will post there details

Please email me at [email protected] if you have any other queries

Hi all

Just tried to look up the Black Swan in Edwinstowe and came across this review.

user reviews of Black Swan, Edwinstowe

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The pub itself appears ok from the outside and was very busy inside,so the beer must be good.Do not stay there in the rooms. They do B&B.It cost £40 for a double room.I have not seen anything that bad before,it was horrible.Everything was old outdated and filthy. There was mould all over the ceiling in the shower and stains all over the carpet.Nasty.The other room that my brother and sister in law had was also filthy and the bed was unbelievable, old and what you could see of the bedbase was really stained and horrible. We lost our money and left to find somewhere else, would rather sleep in the car

This was on the "beerintheevening" web site

Thought I'd let the gadget family (Robin) have a read.

Think we'll try somewhere else.

Cheers.

When we meet initially, we could each have something obviously Canadian either on our car or visibly displayed. We have a small Canadian flag to bring to wave around!

Then again, if you check out http://mytrialsoflifetoo.blogspot.com/ and look in the flicka box in my side bar then you will recognise us anyway!

Canadian explorers will do fine! is this for the calender on the forum?
