Because

a) It is against the law to renew a UK license unless you reside in the UK http://www.yourdrivinglicence.co.uk/...g-licence.html It's also a requirement to notify DVLA if you have moved (£1000 fine)
b) It is against the law to hold a license from another country when you hold one from most Canadian Provinces - and certainly Ontario (apart from a US one, under specific circumstances)

By holding 2 licenses, you are most likely invalidating your Canadian one.

You do know that the definition of holding a licence doesn't mean 'only if it's in your wallet, if it's somewhere else then it doesn't count'. Right?

a) Which was no longer valid because you had exchanged it abroad. In order for it to be re-issued, you would have needed to exchange back (as can be done, easily, for free).
b) Pretending you don't know what "hold" means isn't any cuter than pretending you don't know what "lost" means.

However much one gets out, the law remains the same. Frequency of outside visits has no impact on the result of getting caught. In fact one could say, the more you are out, the greater the risk!

Hmm. You ask for advice, and it is given, along with information that what you think is ok, a middle finger at the establishment as it were, is in fact illegal.

Where do you stand on shoplifting? Is it ok as the stores make more than enough profit, so a little theft is fine?

When you try to hire a car in the UK you'll find out that actually your UK licence is invalid. This exact same scenario happened to someone I know.

When we got our BC licenses, ICBC just hand wrote the BC DL# on the UK license. OH still has hers in the safe. So long as that is where it stays, should not cause a problem. I sent mine to DVLA for something to be done and they kept it.
