Of late there have been some serious questions about moving to Vancouver that were in truth not answered as fully as they deserved. So welcome back.

Good luck with the wedding. The nearest thing to a British local in White Rock is Jimmy Flynn's just by the pier.

I don't really know where the North Shore is, please excuse my ignorance.

I thought it didn't rain that much in Vancouver

The north shore gets more rain than Vancouver. It's on the side of a mountain innit. Rain gets less as you go south from them.

There is nothing specifically wrong with the Sandpiper as such, but the owner does not look after it all that well and it does seem to end up a bit of a middle aged meat market at the weekend. At Charlie don't Surf you can usually while away an afternoon without you needing to buy food with your beer. It is a nice spot to watch the world go by when the weather is good.

Steve dons his anorak.

There is no mountain to be on the other side of.

The north shore gets more rain due to orographic lifting.

The warm moist air is pushed up the northshore mountain slope, as it rises it cools and the moisture condenses causing the rain or snow.

Steve takes his anorak off.

Okay you did ask....

the north shore at the upper limits gets around 2400 mm, bit lower down around 1800 mm and the driest bit around 1600 mm ish....i think. Total days of rain range from around 172 to around 185.

White rock is about 1000 mm.

It's not only the rain that I've noticed but the low ceiling of gray clouds. It is a nice area, but def worse weather in the LMD. Summers are largely fine though.

I always thought it was a bit of myth and a local urban legend and doubted there could be that much difference...but after numerous weekends in white rock/solut surrey house hunting, i've noticed it.

Hence also the stats that i had as i was curious if it was all just hype or if there was a basis in truth...it appears that there is.

So we're off to white rock (well south surrey really)....it's actually has as much to do with being transfered to surrey and the mrs getting a job in white rock....and not being able to afford much of an house on the shore. Besides tis a lovely spot:

been in charlie cant surf before....neat place, also that Indian near the jimmy flynn place (ok but a bit bland) and a rather nice Itallian. Had fish and chips and cooney island and it even smelt like a brit fish and chip shop...nice bit of haddock ...no mushy peas or gravy though

We went to the pub in ocean park which was nice enough....any other gems that i should be aware of?
