Glad you said that. I've noticed posts in the past where some seem to think that being brit still means you are a preferred member of the once mighty Empire.
I have heard, although not experienced, that it is harder to get qualifications recognized here, some see this as protectionism.... |

He states he has a doctorate of medicine in Iran and a practicing license as a doctor. However here in Vancouver his academics are not recognised and he has to literally go back to school to practice here. He feels as though he has not the energy to do this as well as the cost involved. He works as an on call healthcare worker (non qualified nurse) I find his story strange as if it was me I would do what ever it takes to get back that status. The rewards financially at the end outstrip the pain of going back to school. |

It's often the 'back home' merchants. Once in Canada be Canadian, otherwise why move?

You are completely right. If you cannot pay the price and wait for your chance, then go back home.Immigrant have got to respect and abide by the rule of their host country.

I can only draw on my own experience coming to BC as a psychiatric nurse from England. I had to study for and pass the CRPNBC exam that allows me to practice here. In fairness the exam was bloody hard. Not in the knowledge required but familiarising it in the way that our Canadian colleagues are taught which differs considerably to the UK. If you don't pass the exam you can't work its as simple as that whether you have a dream or not. Some people are so arrogant in believing that their training is the best in the world that they miss whats required to stay here. I am a British nurse. In Canada I am a foreign immigrant and as such have to show Canada that I can do my job to their expectations by taking the relevant examinations to practice. I also believe that the immigration process here is difficult but again its about jumping over the hoops and not crying that everything is shit here and our dreams have been killed. In short I feel privileged to live here and will jump over any hoop to stay here. its hard work but what you put in you will certainly get out. My advice to people that bleat is........Go to Australia you don't need a brain to live there!!!!! |

Having moved myself from France to Ireland 4 years ago, I have had a premium experience of moving and settling abroad on my own(even though it was within the EU which is very different), leaving behind family, job, apartment, car, etc..and I'm sure I can answer a few questions if some people have fears and doubts. Amen to that, Brother James!
I do believe I am acquainted with the site you refer to. I have to say that I had little sympathy for most of the 'victims' therein. If you have a 'good' life in one country and wish to trade it for the hope of something 'better' elsewhere, then publicly whining about it not being what you expected is immensely unproductive. |

Would be in touch soon. Many thanks for the gesture.

As an English nurse I also had to sit the registration exam which took a lot of study and help from colleagues. My husband didn't have his marine engineering qualifications recognized so he decided to learn something new and became a pest control technician. We both enjoy our jobs and have settled well into Canadian life over the past 16 months.

But what's the point of going anywhere if you don't have certain hopes and dreams about the place? May as well just stay put and never go anywhere if you're not looking forwarding with some kind of hope and expectation, people go somewhere in the hopes of having a better life (for which reasons vary) otherwise there's no point leaving in the first place.... |

Canadians need foreign workers but get all passive aggressive when they realize that English qualifications are better than theirs so they typicaly respond by making you feel that your entire professional life is worthless and you start at the bottom . Healthcare is miles behind England and as such they don't like people with new modern ideas even when they are well seeded in England and because its way behind they have not yet evolved ways of encompassing change without tying it up in mountains of paperwork and beaurocracy its annoying and frustrating but that is the way it is you have to learn how to move within it and capitalize from within |
