We're not yet in Canada but are preparing by holding a bbq on the 1st and coinciding it with our 5th wedding anniversary (which is on the 14th July). I've got loads of Canadian flags and bunting. My neighbours are going to think I'm barmy!!!

Saint-Jean Baptiste (June 24) is the big day in these parts, so that's when the flags will be out. July 1 will probably pass unnoticed, except that some people might feel cheated that it's on a Saturday.

TRAFALGAR SQUARE London is the place we will be. Will have to wait until next year to celebrate it properly :) Canada House is putting on a big party from 2.30pm Sat June 30th, until late evening under the gaze of Lord Nelson (well not quite as he's covered up at the mo' having a wash and brush up!).

No, the place to be is the Maple Leaf pub on Maiden Lane (Covent Garden). Not that you'll be able to get into the pub, or indeed anywhere near it. You will, however, be able to witness the spactacle of thousands of Canadians getting drunk politely in the street and being nice to each other. Take your own beer. When I went in 2000, the Metropolitan Police felt it necessary to have no less than two officers on hand. They got bored.

YES, when I was in London, the Maple Leaf pub was the place to be on 1st July. If you can get into the pub, it's packed full at opening time on that day. Aw, I miss London a lot... Here in Brampton we'll probably have a BBQ, Rhodes just bought a posh new one with side griddle etc.
