Canada?
Here's my story:
From the age of 17 until the age of 21 I lived in the US, for family reasons I left and moved here in UK where I met my girlfriend 2 years ago. Btw she hates US, psht Brits no wonder lol. I'm on the verge of losing my mind I miss US man.. Story short after talking about it for so long she said fine we will move to North America but not US, rather Canada. Yeah Canada? Right, now how different canada is to us ? Metric system right ? What do y'all think? |
Re: Canada?
As other posters have said, Canada is USA light, with health care and higher taxes.

Re: Canada?
Canada is becoming the dumping ground for people from a host of countries who are pissed off at their own countries state of affairs and lack of ability to find decent jobs otherwise why are so many wanting to come.
We know its not for the price of auto insurance or cheese. Are they coming for the weather mmm minus 40C temps or snow on the ground for several months. Definitely not coming for cheap airfares within Canada although we are nearer to Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic for that 1 week all inclusive vacation in Jan, Feb or March. Culture and history and architecture nope none of that here. So one wonders why are all these expats here or wanting to come as it beats me. |

Re: Canada?
Cool, good enuff for me.. I probably wouldn't have a chance to get approved for a visa, my gf would tho considering she got a master degree and stuff.. Actually do you guys think she would get approved for a work visa, she's a GCSE teacher here in UK.. Currently working for a college in the city.

Doubtful, I don't think ESPN is available here (not the real ESPN). But you wouldn't be getting it in the UK either would you? Or is it available there? |

She would need to be licensed in whichever province you settled in but Canada already has more than enough teachers. |
Re: Canada?
So what r the chances really.. where would she have to apply to get this license to teach over there ?

Re: Canada?
Apply, possibly top up her training, maybe get a supply job eventually.
There are an awful lot of teachers fighting for not many jobs here. |
Re: Canada?
Mmmm I see, what if we join like an agency to help us out, do you guys know any trusted ones?
|
Re: Canada?
To sum up Canada as a country, its cold and its not very good at stuff.

Start looking at the Wiki and figure out if you may be eligible for any of the visa routes in to Canada. If not, then no point worrying about the metric system or availability of sports on tv! Steer well clear of any 'agencies', if you want help with a visa application (most on the forum just do it themselves unless they've got complicated circumstances, the forms are fairly simple), then hire a proper immigration lawyer instead. Good luck. |
Re: Canada?
Me? I'm only a simple sales advisor that hardly makes 23k a year lol, there isn't any easy path right? So what other options do we have?
|
Re: Canada?
Look at the skilled worker program and see if there's anything there you'd like to do?

But we don't know what other options you have, only you will know what visa you're eligible for! It's impossible for us to say without knowing a lot more info. What do you think is your most likely visa route having looked at the Wiki and CIC website? |
Re: Canada?
I just had a look at 'the list' and there r quiet a few options there.. Federal skilled workers is probably the best route I'd say now for now.. Do u guys think I should apply for it ?
|
Re: Canada?
Yeah my wage isn't so bad for a sales advisor, but considering my gf's job she makes over 30k or so yearly.

Travel and Work in Canada | Temporary Work Visa For Work Holidays in Canada for Students and Youth | International Experience Canada The programme might open Dec 2014 onwards until approx 5350 places are full and competition is fierce i.e. spots full in minutes rather than days. |

So have another look at the Wiki, read more threads, research, and then plan a job hunting trip to Canada as it seems you'd need a job offer to qualify for any visa from what you've said, unless you do qualify for the IEC. Good luck. |
