My wife is a uk registered nurse- not apparent on the occupations list- is it possible to apply for Canadian residency?

Your wife cannot be a principal applicant under current law without pre-arranged
employment (validated by HRDC job offer and proper Provincial licensing/registration
as RN), but what about your qualifications? Maybe you qualify and if it is the case
then you may be the principal applicant.

Thanks for your reply.

Strangely enough our Canadian friends tell us there is shortage of nurses, and that they are recruiting internationally.

Is it possible to get Temporary residency and then apply for Permanent residency once in Canada?

Regards
Dominic

Yes, we have nurses shortage, but it doesn't mean that it is easier to get here.
Before foreign trained nurse can start working in Canada she or he must get full
evaluation of qualifications and pass the required exams. Only after that Provincial
registration or license may be granted. It is rather long process and depending from
the Province such registration/licensing may take anywhere from 3 to 6 months. And
only after registration/license is granted or at least approved to be granted upon
arrival to Canada any job offer may be validated by HRDC. But it can be done,
regardless the time that it takes. You should contact proper nurses association or
organization in charge of registration/licensing in the Province of your destination
for more information before contemplating the idea any further.

Once in Canada on temporary Employment Authorization you may also apply for PR
status, but application must be submitted to the visa post outside Canada. New
immigration law that will be implemented by June 2002 allows for the creation of
inland applicants category in case of temporary workers, but it is not yet in place.

Certainly. If you have managed to find an employer willing to help out, = then this
would be an excellent method. Check on credentially services = too.
