Does anyone know where it is possible to buy imported English cheeses in the greater Toronto area? Many thanks

Think of it as solid milk, a unique delicacy that can only be found in Canada. Problem solved.

St Lawrence Market I guess is the first place to try.

The trick is to find one of the decent canadian cheeses. I like the extra old maple dale myself. Then again Im no cheese snob.

We found that bland and it's $24/lb here. Ultimately it went on a pizza. The seven year white cheddar from the Olympic stand in the market is better and $11.

But then, if the OP is adventurous enough to go into Loblaws, the PC extra old cheddar will do at a pinch.

And now it's in Brick form rather than slab. I've always found it to be acceptable - in a farmhouse/tasty sort of way as opposed to mature.

Costs me $7.24 for 500g

I tried the 72 month old maple dale, but I wasnt man enough for that one, it was too tangy to eat sober. That was only a little more, but it was on special at the time.

Crap cheese in Canada? That's the first I've heard of it.

Any of:

St Lawrence Market (loads of choice there)
About Cheese on Church Street
The Epicure Shop on Parliament
Whole Foods Market
Metro seem to have a few English ones from time to time

Not sure why you feel you need English cheese specifically though, there's plenty of good local ones (although not the stuff in the long flat packages).

Fortinos or if you are near Burlington or Hamilton Zarky's, they have everything from Kerrygold to Cheshire.

Balderstons is decent - normally buy the 3 or 4 yr aged stuff. Plenty of speciality cheese shops stock english cheese. Try the counters at St.Lawrence Market as others suggested, or there's a place called Global Cheese (I think), which is in Kensington Market area - on Baldwin St (again I think). Alex Farm Cheese (Which is at St.L) also has a branch on Danforth Ave.

The Cheese Boutique, 45 Ripley Avenue has an excellent selection of cheeses and accompanying crackers/breads and relishes.
