Camping in NS
Who's been camping in NS? Which campsites would you recommend for a tent-based camping trip? We are thinking of going this weekend and a couple of the provincial parks (Rissers Beach and Thomas Raddal) are on my possible list - anyone got experience of these?

Re: Camping in NS
I know what you mean. But I think they've gone and its safe to come out. Just the mosquitoes and deer fly to deal with now

Re: Camping in NS
Try Kejimkujik (Keji) National Park. Large lake setting. Very large park with lots
of secluded areas. Great canoeing area with rentals available. Rissers is on a beautifull beach and is very nice but little privacy in the camping area. Great beach like atmosphere. Nearby is Crescent Beach which you can drive your car on. You park on the Beach. Short drive to either Bridgewater or Liverpool. Another option are the campgrounds on the North Shore. The beaches aren't quite as nice as the white sand beaches on the South Shore but the water is much warmer. Have a good time. |

Re: Camping in NS
Melmerby Beach Provincial Park which is near New Glasgow. I haven't been there in about 10 years but remember it as a fine place with a large beach and water warm enough so as not to freeze your "you no whats" off .
Usually but not always the Federal (national parks) and the Provincial parks are the nicest ones but tend to fill up first. Better call for reservations. I know there are expats who live on the North Shore who post quite often who might be able to give better advice. The Campground Owners of NS have a web site which might be helpfull as well. |

Re: Camping in NS
We camped in the National Parks in Cape Breton. Very crowded sites.

Thanks. Nervous about going to the north shore though - I might get skinned alive owing to some previous posts I wrote a few months back :sneaky: or at the very least held hostage and made to buy property there

Thanks Homegrown. I've been to Keji (though not camping) but we were aiming for something on the ocean. Anywhere in particular on the North Shore you would recommend?
We are thinking of doing some camping at the end of August when we have settled in so if you find good places please share. |

Can you camp at the Keji Park seaside adjunct?

Rissers is a great park and they have some nice camp sites but it often gets booked up early because it is so popular. Keji can also get booked. I recall going one time and had to go into a holding area to wait for some people to leave....it sure is nice once you get in there. We also love Fundy Park in NB....that was great also. |
Re: Camping in NS
This is a good one right on the water http://gulfshorecampingpark.com/ and close to most things golf course just along the road. They do good breakfasts, lunches etc.
There is one on Malagash (no website found) close to the wharfe and the Blue Sea Beach, but there is a small beach just across from the campsite. There is a local market to save driving into Tatamagouche. http://www.sunrisetrail.ca/directory.../campsites.htm http://www.campcanada.com/NovaScotia...nriseTrail.cfm Most other campsites can be found on here and you can search on location. http://novascotia.com/en/home/accomm...ode=3&cat=camp If you do come up this way we could meet up and point you in the direction of all the local attractions etc. We have a lovely spot (4 acres grass, trees at the back, ocean on 2 sides) and I have thought of camping out there myself, but it does not have facilities. It is on the edge of Wallace Bay http://www.wallacebythesea.ca/ with lovely views and the village is just across the water. You are welcome to camp there. Some friends of ours have a webcam looking out towards Wallace Bay from their shop on Wallace Ridge http://www.thymeandplace.ca/about.htm We have not had a problem with black fly, but some areas are experiencing quite a lot of mosquitoes. The closer you are to the ocean usualy the better it is. Have a good time wherever you go. |
