Calgary Stampede, what to do see and how to do it.

My parents are visiting Calgary over the Stampede period and obviously we all want to attend it and experience it. To make travelling easier we have booked a B&B in the city in advance.

Looking on line some of the events look pricey, what do you suggest we see, avoid and where is the best place to buy tickets and sit etc.

I am also aware of the stampede parade on the first day that runs through the city, again we would like to attend. Does anybody have any good tips or suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

The rodeo stuff is fun, the evening show is just a little weird. Unless you're a die-hard horse n'cattle fan a day is more than sufficient.

You will, of course, come away with a hat.

Take chairs to sit in for the parade and be prepared for the crush when it ends. Take the bus rather than the train to the Stampede park as everyone tends to pile onto the trains forgetting the bus just around the corner. The IAMS SUPERDOGS are a must see!

Best place to sit for chucks (precedes Grandstand show) is as high as possible. For the Rodeo sit in the second level.

You can get rush tickets for both (no seats).

As PP said take chairs for the parade (its over rated and I say this as a guy that LOVES the whole stampede) best place to sit is junction of 6th ave and 1st SW.

If you have kids be prepared for the Midway (and minidonuts and deep fried coke).

...and take the inlaws/outlaws on the OAP day (free entry) and check local Co-op for deals on tickets for entry. Apart from that, wear a hat, drink lots and take any opportunity to sit down, it can be a long day.

Making assumptions on the age of the OP and 'his' parents arent you? ;)Assume the OP is the same age as act1980 (28). When I was 28 my parents were 49, dont even think of suggesting they were OAPS then:p
