Calgary - Port Charges
 

I am currently in the process of getting prices to send my stuff over to Canada. I am being told a price, not including destination/port charges.

Does anyone who has sent stuff to Calgary know anything about the extra costs involved and the processes. The compnay said that when the goods arrive I will have to go with my passport and fill in a form, to clear the goods.

I know that because they are personal effects that there is no duty on them, but for simplicity is it easier to do it all in my wifes name because she would be classed as a returning canadian citizen.

Please help, I am trying to limit the number of hidden costs that are going to creep up on me.

Well at first the company said to deliver to Edmonton, but said it was the same price to calgary.

I will wait a little longer for a better answer, at least we have got the lamest joke out of the way towards the beginning any way, hehe. :zzz:

Don't know if this is much help. But.......

I received a quote going the other way just to the docks in London for $2,800 and then a total quote, which includes all the clearance, destination, port charges etc, of $4280. This also included the road transport from docks to home. About a 6 hour drive.

I am doing it a slightly different way. I am loading up a big box, about a cubic metre and sending that. I work for a contract packing company so we have all the stuff to do that. The company I am dealing with with collect from me, Near manchester, send to Calgary for £270. But she mentioned that there would possibly be extra fees

Perhaps you should try getting quotes from other companies. I just received aquote with Exess International and the cost is based on professional pack, door to door service including customs clearance, port charges, delivery, unpack and removal of debris & packing material.

FYI the quote is for 546 cubic feet £2997. (they have a form online you fill in an estimate of your goods. This is what this quote was based on. I believe our goods will be less than this.)

Well, we really dont have enough to fill aything that big. We have very little furnature, all the cheap IKEA stuff that is cheaper there anyway.

Well I mentioned on a previous thread that I was thinking of getting rid of everything when we move...but I did a spreadsheet...have a habit of doing that ;) and listed how much I would get for just a few of our bigger items if we sold them here...and then what it would cost to buy them over there....and after only about 8 items...I realised we would spend way more money buying new than the moving costs would be.

Selling everything was the mistake I made when I moved to the UK 8 years ago..and it cost us a fortune in the long run to get our house back up and running. But to each his own.

Ours is packing and loading ourselves and unload at the other end in a 40' container.

I received our bill of lading this morning that had the carrier on it. A company called MTMX Logistics. You might be able to get the info from them or a similiar company in the Calgary area.

Sorry I can't offer anymore help than that.
