Edmonton has a big shopping centre with mini golf. They both have a rodeo, but Calgary's is a bit more well known. Hope that helps. |

neither, they're both shiteholes :)

Re: calgary or edmonton
Both have a shit NHL team. Edmonton is further north. Both have an airport although Calgary is busier. Edmonton is closet to Jasper national park whereas Calgary is closer to Banff national park.
Both employ welders, carpenters, teachers etc etc. Both pay the same sales tax and GST. Both have British style pubs which serve Guinness and fish and chips. Both are a long way from Toronto. The #1 Trans Canada highway doesn't go through Edmonton but goes through Calgary. |
Re: calgary or edmonton
Calgary. It's nearer to other stuff. Edmonton is 3 hours to Calgary before you get to other stuff. You're welcome. ;)

Re: calgary or edmonton
They are rivals. Pick one and like everyone else there, you'll hate the other for no other reason than it's not where you live.

Re: calgary or edmonton
edmonton is called Deadmonton by trolls in the Comments section of the Globe and Mail. And by people in vancouver.
Calgary is called Cowtown even though they don't have cows there anymore. HTH. |

Edmonton is more of a blue collar town than Calgary and it is colder, plus it's a much longer drive to get anywhere. However, because the govt. is there and also geography, it is a nicer town, imo. Much nicer along the Saskatchewan River plus it is a more normal sort of city, i.e. a conurbation, whereas Calgary is a monolithic block and 80% of the residential areas look identical. I think because of the transport links and a slightly better job market, Calgary wins. Calgary also has a lower crime rate. |

Edmonton is closer to Jasper... which is good...but also further away from Kelowna etc which is not so good. Edmonton is a shithole from a cultural perspective...but so is Calgary, where the increased size does not provide any additional attraction as far as i can see. I've lived in Edmonton for 5 years now and have worked for a couple of months at a time in Calgary every now and then. I thought i always wanted to move to Calgary to be nearer the Rockies, but to be honest the smaller town feel of YEG is a plus. Perhaps when they build the new downtown arena by 2016 the downtown will actually start to resemble a downtown with some spark to it. Otherwise it's just urban sprawl with a Starbucks every now and then...same as Calgary. The pothole's in Edmonton this year are a f***ing disgrace. |

Even the drunken native's sleeping next to bushes aren't as bad as the drunks back home. |

Calgary is very similar, infact am i right in thinking it's been voted Reuters cleanest city in the world on more than one occasion? That said, i do notice a fair bit of grafitti in Calgary, mostly on the newsstands at bus-stops etc... don't tend to see as many teenage drunks roaming the streets either, but i'm lead to believe they all sit in someones basement and get stoned instead! |

Well I find I don't have time to admire it while I'm driving around Edmonton, because the traffic actually moves. :p North Vancouver, especially around the bridges, is very pretty.
