I too love Koodo
Am on the $15 per month pay as you go plan. I have 500 minutes talk and 1GB data bought as an add on

In Canada wifi is prevalent. You can connect anywhere for free - Tim Hortons, Starbucks, the mall, the train stations everywhere. I never need data and whe n I do, it is minimal.

If you sign up with a credit card, the monthly cost for unlimited texting is $13.95. You really can't beat that.

Love Koodo - no issues ever

Oh - they just brought out US roaming for not much money as an add on - bonus!

Koodo is a subsidiary of Telus, so uses their network - good coverage.
Very interesting! I too am very light on actual calls. Will look into this prepay option.

Just checked it out. Looks like Koodo pre-pay is a winner. Will sort it out when we get there in November. Thanks as ever for all of the valuable input guys!

Both plans offer unlimited call and texts and 2GB data.
Anyone have experience with Chatr?

I was with Chatr until this great sim only promotion came out to switch to Rogers (the parent company). I pay $45 for 3GB of data and unlimited text/talk.

Apparently Rogers does this deal quite frequently to lure customers to switch from its 'pre-paid' brands like Chatr, Petro Canada mobile, Fide etc. to its mainstream post-paid brand.

Slightly off topic but relevant to the users here. There is a smartphone app that allows you to phone landlines and mobiles/cellphones free if connected via wifi (Canada and America). The app is called 'TextNow'.

I've been using it for about a year and found the reception great. Saves time and money but there are some pop up adverts. It even gives you a local number to use and receive calls.

Public Mobile currently have 4GB of data, unlimited Canada-wide calls and unlimited international texts for $40 on a BYOD plan. I can't post the URL as a new member, but it should be available on their home page (publicmobile dot ca). They run on the Telus network, so coverage will be as good as Telus/Koodo.

I'm another one who uses Koodo prepay. I've been with them for 4 1/2 years and the price hasn't gone up. I like that the minutes and data don't expire like they do with other companies. They had double talk/data booter packs last winter (Boxing Day sale I think) and I didn't have to top up again until last week. Never any issues with coverage. We're soon going to get the same pre-pay plan for our oldest child.

It's good that there seems to be more choice these days. Obviously the market is still light years behind the UK and even the US but fewer people seem content to be held to ransom by the likes of Rogers and Telus.

Just switched to Freedom mobile Home 30 plan from Koodo. Get unlimited calls, text and 250mb data for $25 . Saving $30 per month compared to Koodo. No need to have a large data package when you live in Toronto. There are free wifi hotspots everywhere on the ttc, in the local pizza place, pizza pizza and every pub in town. All the malls appear to have free wifi as well.

Us ttagttag.ca to make international calls at 5c a minute
