Burns night?

Anybody celebrating Burns night?
I reckon it's celebrated more here than in Scotland, just like St Patrick's Day is celebrated more here than in the UK. ;)

I haven't found a haggis yet! Mind you we always celebrate it cos it's my son's birthday today too.

My eldest baby (Daniel) is 16 today :D . This is his first Canadian birthday as we have only been here 2 weeks. He's not in school yet (due to exams) so has no friends to celebrate with, only me and his brother (dad's working away in Dartmouth all week). We'll make it a great day for him (if I can get him off the XBOX 360 Oblivion game) and celebrate again at the weekend.

Enjoy yer haggis, neeps n tatties wherever you are

Here is an alternative Burns poem:

BURNS NIGHT – TAE A FERT

Oh what a sleekit, horrible beastie
Lurks in yer stomach efter a feastie
Just as ye sit doon among yer kin
There sterts tae stir an enormous wind

The neeps an' tatties an' mushy peas
Stert workin like a gentle breeze
But soon the puddin' wi' the sonsie face
Will huv ye blawin' a' ower the place

Nae matter whit the hell ye dae
A'body's gonnae huv tae pay
Even if ye try tae stifle
It’s like a bullet oot a rifle

Haud yer bum tight tae the chair
Tae try an' stop the leakin’ air
Shift yersel' fae cheek to cheek
An' pray tae God it disnae reek

But a' yer efforts go assunder
Oot it comes like a clap o' thunder
It ricochets aroon' the room
Michty me! A sonic boom

God almighty, it fairly reeks
(Ah hope ah havnae shit ma breeks!)
Straight tae the bog ah better scurry
Ah whit the hell, it’s no' ma worry

A'body roon' aboot me's chokin’
Wan or two are nearly bokin'
I’ll feel much better fur a while
Ah cannae help but raise a smile

“Wis him!!” ah shout, wi accusin' glower
Alas, too late, he's just keeled ower
“Ya dirty bugger!” they shout and stare
Ah dinnae feel welcome ony mair

Where e'er ye be, let yer wind gang free
(sounds jist the job fur thee and me)
Whit a fuss at Rabbie's perty
Ower the sake o'wan wee ferty.

Got my haggis :) Despite customs' warnings that all meat in your cases will be sniffed out, I've managed to bring about 10 over the last year and a half. Yummmm.

That's brill - could have done with that - used to go to Burns Nights a few years ago organised where I used to work. Had to stand & do a reply from the lasses back to the laddies - that would have been perfect:eek:

You don't actually like it do you Biiiink? Truth be told I've never actually tasted it  but just the thought of whats in it  that's enough for me.

Re: Burns night?

The last time we were in the Scottish borders, I tried a bit of chicken stuffed with haggis and it was quite tasty. I was surprised as it wasn't as bad as I'd thought it would be!! (for the most part, it's still not my cup of tea)

When I think of the contents of hot dogs that are consumed in North America ... that's what makes me cringe even more! ;)
