Just how many peeps here live in Burlington?

Thats where we are thinking of moving to when we land and we were wondering what it's like for a young family. (Our daughter will be almost 3).

Hi, We all live in Headon Forest, in northern part of Burlington between 407 and QEW. Also seem to be plenty of expats around too.

We love it. Very clean, lovely housing, nice and open and green with plenty of parks and things to do with the baby
(15 month old Austin). Ontario Early Years centres are free and excellent to take baby to.

Plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and malls nearby and seems to be nice and quiet, perfect for the young family (IF you like that sort of thing, which we do but others might not)

That sounds perfect. Do you know of any cheapish hotels or apartments to rent in your area. We are coming for a visit in May (2 adults and 2 kiddies) so needs to be family friendly really.

You could try www.bbcanada.ca which lists Bed and Breakfasts. My husband stayed in one in Hamilton when he first came over and the couple were a lovely couple who looked after him brilliantly.

Very cheap as well. You could take a look at that although there are many more nearer to Burlington as well.

I would recommend staying in a B & B as well as you then usually stay with a local who can give you loads of advice and guidance.

Nice to know their is someone else heading in the same direction as us ! We have an Aunt and Uncle in Burlington and we have been over a few times. I would say it is quite English in Burlington without all the nasty bits and lots of nicer things. We are just about to start a family and that is the place I want to bring them up in. We also have family just over the border in New York state and they al sent their children to college in Canada.... apparantly they have better one's than the U.S, so that sounds promising does'nt it.

What stage are you upto Platty ? :)

Hi Glani,

We are going thru Bunac first, H is getting a 1 year work permit and we will see what happens. We really didn't want to wait 2 years.

My best friend and her H have literally just moved to Burlington plus H has lots of good work contacts :) so at least we will know a few people.

I think thats they key to helping you settle really isnt it.... we lived in Germany for a year when we first got married, it was hard at first but they getting to know people eased the homesick feeling.

We have just found out that Hubby's company are also in Canada, so going to try and look into a possible trans if PR is accepted, fingers crossed ;)
