Re: bunac construction insurance ?
Not sure about the construction thing, but you are onto something with the idea of applying for the provincial cover. Just be sure that you are eligible, I've checked out the Ontario one and unfortunately Bunac people won't qualify.

to be honest i don't know how far your health care coverage goes in terms of accident compensation. as an example you most probably don't get paid income in lieu through your provincial health care insurance if you're not able to work because of your work related injuries. something called compensation insurance or similar issued through a work compensation board would be the thing which would be responsible for that. it might be not much of help since i'm a) in bc and b) only work as a cabinetmaker (i'm working mainly in the shop, so only about 10 or 15% installation on jobsite), but: the insurance which covers work related accidents is fully taken care of by my employer. i'm pr now but came over on a young workers exchange program - from day one i was covered under the company's work compensation insurance policy. if i'm not mistaken, that's mandatory for most employers, at least here in bc. http://www.worksafebc.com/default.asp from their faqs: Who is required to register for insurance coverage with WorkSafeBC? Virtually all employers in British Columbia are required by law (under the Workers Compensation Act) to register for insurance with WorkSafeBC. This includes employers in home-based businesses, as well as some contractors, subcontractors and people who are hiring workers such as: * Nannies, companions or other caregivers * Domestic workers, such as maids * Construction or repair workers or contractors * Gardeners or landscapers if you google for "workplace compensation board + [insert your province]" you should get the for you suitable links. the link i got for nova scotia: http://www.gov.ns.ca/snsmr/paal/WORKERS/paal317.asp from their website: Who Needs This Registration? Most Nova Scotia Employers must register with the Workers` Compensation Board of Nova Scotia. A list of industries requiring coverage can be found in the Workers' Compensation General Regulations . The Workers' Compensation Board protects and insures both employers and employees in cases where there is a work related injury. The WCB also provides injury prevention education and support to promote a culture of safety in Nova Scotia workplaces. Issuing Agency: Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia Where can you get this Registration and / or further information? Employer Services Assessment Services Department Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia Phone: 1 (877) 211-9267 (Toll-Free Throughout Canada) e-mail: [email protected] Mailing Address: Assessment Services PO Box 1150 Halifax, NS B3J 2Y2 Halifax Location: Assessment Services 5595 Fenwick Street, Suite 109 Halifax, NS Phone: (902) 491-8324 Fax: (902) 491-8326 Sydney Location: Assessment Services 336 Kings Road, Suite 117 Sydney, NS B1S 1A9 Phone: (902) 563-2444 Fax: (902) 563-0512 Further information is available on the WCB's web site at http://www.wcb.ns.ca. which means to me that in nova scotia your employer is responsible for the premiums like here... but as i said, as long as i have no idea what you are actually looking for that's just guess work. i'm by no means an expert and apologise for any confusion caused by this post. |
