Hello folks,

Following BE advice I have altered my job search, many pointed out that smaller building companies would not neccessarily advertise positions on big job websites and may not even be actively searching for staff.
I have downloaded the NS yellow pages and have started contacting building companies with letters and resumes, informing them of an up coming visit. The problem is these are just firms in a phone book, all the ads look good but experience back here is that the better small firms rarely advertise, most work is gained through reputation and recommendation. With this in mind does anyone know any good residential building companies that may be worth contacting. I would rather work for a good quality small firm than a large faceless company.

Hi Paul, we are looking to go to NS too. Try looking at www.cans.ns.ca
Its the construction association in Nova Scotia. If you click on Menu at the top right, then company directory it gives you an option to click on members.
You then have a wide range of options to choose from depending on what field you specialize in.
Hope this helps, it gave us a long list to make a start on, to send off reumes etc.
