British Nurses & Automotive Advice!
Hello people,
Brand new here, please forgive me if there has been many before me with the same questions, but I’m sure you can appreciate individual circumstances vary greatly and it can take hours of sorting through forums to find one similar to yourself!
A brief background of me and my partner to hopefully help you guys give us some accurate advice. We previously lived in Australia for a couple of years where I worked and my partner studied 18 months at Uni (Midwifery), things happened and we returned to the UK to finish qualifications (me to obtain some) to hopefully return as permanent residents. Unfortunately studying a year overseas apparently accounts for nothing in the UK so my partner has had to start from scratch, not only that but wasn’t accepted onto the course of choice (with Distinctions across the board, madness!) and has settled with nursing - which actually may be a blessing in disguise.
We have always been a sucker for Canada, the geography and climate is actually better suited to our personalities (yeah we love the cold) and have actually started seriously considering Canada for the future. We have a newborn son in the mix so we would be moving as a family (please advise accordingly bearing in mind we have a child). I am underway into an apprenticeship which will give me a qualification in Automotive Electricals, specialising in aftermarket applications such as tracking devises, cameras etc on general vehicles along with plant machinery and fleet. What are job opportunities like for such a trade in Canada? I’m aware going self employed would probably be the best option giving the speciality, but for the first year or so for stability would I be able to find jobs for an Auto Electrician?
We have looked into my partners obstacles for when she finishes uni (she starts Jan 21’ so we have a while to plan) it looks to be quite the task to get registered as a nurse in Canada. Does she require to have 1 years post qualification before applying at NNAS? I know for Australia’s PR (slightly different process I know) they require at least 1 year post quals experience before you even apply for a visa. Also if she is able to apply and we can start making the transition over, what are the job prospects and roles she would be realistically looking at while she’s waiting to be registered? Would it be a risk safe enough to take with a young one?
P.S we are looking at the Edmonton,AB area. Thanks in advance, sorry if it’s a lot to read!

Hi,
I am currently going through the nurse registration process for Canada. NNAS are great at answering any questions you may have , so you should contact them with your queries regarding a years experience.
Good luck

All requirements for nurses will be on the provincial college of RN website. I don’t think experience is required. The issue is meeting requirements with clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult on nursing transcripts

I asked my Husband and he agrees. Some dealerships will employ someone. Most use their regular techs or just use an 'accessory guy'.

you also most likely wouldn't be able to challenge a red seal exam off the back of your apprenticeship due to the hours needed to do so.
