British museums

There is a wee chance that I've missed something, but having worked as a coach driver all over Europe for nearly ten years, I never encountered museums outside Britain where you can get in for free (not counting the private museums of less than 100 sq.ft.).
What I actually mean to say is: Is Britain the exception to charging an entrance fee, or are all others museums?
I cannot remember any museum to be for free and I've been to Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic and Austria. The only exception here was a perfume museum in Paris, but the management expects all visitors to buy some foul smelling odour for exorbitant prices!

Well, the, you're coming to the right Canada - expect to pay for everything here and then some!!!!!

Re: British museums

I think there is something in that, the countries you listed there, we have had to pay to get into museums there, and in some of them, I have been able to use my NUS card in the past to get a discount.

It will seem the UK is the only place that you can still get into a museum and gallery for free, which is unbelievable, considering the UK is known to be experience. I get asked that a lot at work, london is expensive eh?

But you know what? You don't have to pay for water in restaurants here, you get it for free with lemon in it :D

If you ask - in Ireland the waitress carried it to the table before we even had the chance to ask....now that's class.......

The waitress takes the lemon out with her fingers "free of charge" of course.......

And provocatively sticks it in her mouth :D Come on lads you are going off topic here. Who said it was a waitress anyway, a bit sexist aren't you? ;)

Just so you know....I'm female...not that it makes that much diference. Yes, when we wee there in March/April we were in the Ring of Kerry area and spent the morning watching the parade......one of the few beautiful days we had.

Re: British museums

Are you coming onto me? Who could have thunk it that you were female :D This is where we usually stay in dublin, and you know who owns it? Yes am a big fan, and admire what the guy does for world poverty, the way he uses his status ! I will rather give him my money than to someone else, I still burn their cds though ;)

hahaha - mmm...well one never knows do they? - it's certainly the up and coming thing. Personally I was really shocked at how free and easy pornograph, etc was in Europe - when I went to the cyper cafe to pick up my e-mail. One day sat beside 3 guys who were balantly (you get my drift)..........

.don't think my husband would be very happy though.....but just curious why you thought I was male all this time?

Here's one:

http://www.canadianclayandglass.ca/

It is in Waterloo, Ontario. Although they don't charge any "entrance fee", you are welcome to make a "donation".

I thought so for quite a while, until I read "my husband" in one of your posts. But I don't know why I thought so.

And now back on-topic!

You lost me totally, how did we get onto the pornography subject? I was talking about dublin, U2, Bono and edge's clarence hotel, and what he does around the world for poverty.

I think it's time you go back to bed, may be your husband was righ, that you do live in your own little cocoon :D

Makes perfect sense....you asked "if I was coming on to you" (kiddingly)....over the internet.......it was in Dublin that I went to the cyper cafe and say the blatant "p"....so everything is connected...in its own little way.....or maybe i've spent too much time looking at the organisms in tidal pools?

I have run off a copy of the hotel info - planning to go back to Ireland in the Spring on a celtic music tour and we hit dublin - had a great time there - wish the weather had been better though!!!! Was really wonderful walking long the quay at night with all the lights on...and guess what ...they even had a pizza named for Canadian....I loved all the closed little areas for traffic and the statue of Molly Malone.

yes, Scotland, was really wonderful as well - once you got out of the big cities - we couldn't wait till we left Glasgow and we only stayed 2 days.

Further north in the country was truly outstanding - and the people incredibly friendly - hard to understand at times...but very friendly

It's only seven hours from canada, and you can get cheap flights, but you might want to leave it till you've got your canadian citizenship ;) Like you said, one day, or two :D

Speaking about the scottish dialect/accent, I recently read a book by Terry Pratchett, called "The wee-free men". They're a bunch of very little men, 3 inches high, and they speak a language that I presumed was scottish. Wonderfull book!

Well, i think it has far more to do with being Irish/Polish heritage than actually being stubborn. My mom is 80, came from Ireland and is still as stubborn as the day is long. But she tells me I get it from my dad (polish)....

I like that expression: stubborn as the day is long. That means that during the winter she's less stubborn than in the summer? :)

Have you read the email I send you re. quoting?
