Hi, brrttpaul, and welcome to the BE forum.

Bricklayers are amongst the Occupations Under Pressure in Alberta and New Brunswick.

Several of your other questions probably will be answered if you read Beginner's Guide to Canadian Immigration.

Hope that helps.

Not much housing work as most houses are built with timber and cladding . Although brickwork is used for the stoops alright . Alot of commercial is done with cladding aswell . There is work for brickys alright on shopfronts and streetfronts - a good bricky will always find work .

Hi paul, I'm a bricky myself & going to Winnipeg soon as paperwork arrives (on a WP), I'm in contact with an expat bricky contractor there who's looking for a few guys at the mo, do some research on the WP wiki and pm me for his contact details if you're interested. He's looking for 6 trowels and has already applied for the LMO. Soon as that comes back positive, I'm booked it, packed it, f**ked off!

P.S now is the time to cross the pond if you're thinking about it, work has slowed up quite a lot locally & I think it may get worse

Interesting what Burnsy says, I was going to say I could count on one hand the number of brick houses I saw in Winnipeg, whereas almost every house seems to be brick here. I wondered if it was something to do with the climate in Winnipeg, that brick wasn't the best option? Dunno.

I don't think its the climate, a brick-built house will last 100+ years with the right materials, maybe clad is just the regional trend. Just a thought as this will be my first time in Canada

I believe that even houses with brick exteriors are generally just clad with brick on a wooden frame/plywood exterior rather than using brick structurally.
Certainly brick clad houses are as rare as hens teeth here. I guess because it's a higher end and more expensive finish than vinyl or wood siding.

PM PinkMcFarquar. Her OH works in something to do with Oil drilling here in St John's. For East Coast Oil and Gas jobs you could start here: http://www.careerbeacon.com/cat/en/14 Alberta would of course be the other place to look.

I meant the difference in climate between Winnipeg, say, and here. But AX's price reason could be why I didn't see so many brick ones in Winnipeg. I was just guessing.

The house next door has been built over this winter, foundations were done by Oct. They've bricked it and stone trimmed it, but it's been a tiny section at a time, under massive sheets and with several propane tanks on 24/7 to get it to the right temperature. Bricklaying seems a bit problematic over the winter even in the banana belt!

I know threads drift but you won't get good replies to an oil question buried in a bricklaying thread. Much better to start your own new thread with a clear title
