Hi we are thinking of moving to Ontario & have been told that Brantford is a nice area,does anyone have any info on the area please?

Brantford is somewhat run down, espcially the centre which is in the process of being pulled down as part of a plan to regenerate it. Most of the shops migrated out to the Lyndon Mall out on Wayne Gretzky Parkway which effectively killed off the centre. The town itself is not a bad place to live and is well located for travel to work elsewhere, in particular Hamilton which is about 25 minutes away.

Thanks for your reply.We have looked at house prices in Hamilton,Cambride & Guelf but found them expensive,do you know of any other areas within a reasonable distance to Hamilton which are nice but cheaper than the big cities? We went to St Catharines recently & liked it there but there`s not much there workwise.

Compared to most areas surrounding it, or in easy commute of it, Hamilton is quite cheap for housing. House prices vary depending on where in the city you look and what kind you want.

What kind of price are you hoping to find a house for?

Where will you be working?

Do you need to live near schools?

What do you like to do?

What kind of housing do you like?

If you can answer some of those questions it would be easier to answer you!

(I live in Hamilton - we paid $155,000 for our 3 bedroom house 2 and 1/2 bathrooms and finished basement with large garden on the "mountain" 4 years ago - present value is around $200k..)

Hi there -

We moved to Cambridge a couple of months ago. It's a lovely place to live. The house prices are not too bad here - if you shop around. We love Guelph but it is a bit more expensive and you seem to get a lot less for your money. Kitchener (very much a university town) is cheaper than Cambridge - but the downtown area is a little rough, in my opinion. Waterloo is, again a typical university type town, but is a little nicer than Kitchener, in my opinion. There seem to be a lot more housing options in the Uni towns - I guess because of the student requirements - house shares, room only, basement rentals etc.

As siouxie said; you need to look at your requirements - kids, schools, work, hobbies etc... that's exactly how we made our decision. Also, when we were researching, we went online and looked at the town's own websites. They list everything from facilities, by-laws, job opportunities, local events etc.

Hi,the most important thing to us is a safe area with a good school,as we have a 10 yr old son who is quite shy,we have lived in PEI for the last 2 yrs & he is very settled here,but we need to relocate for better work prospects.We are looking at a house in the region of $180,000.My husband is a truck driver & is looking at Cambridge Hamilton Milton & Woodstock areas,we did love Saint Catharines when we visited but didn`t get to look anywhere else.

Hi we also like the look of Cambridge,I have looked at the websites for towns but also like to get feedback from people who know these places,the more info I can get at the moment the better.When we came to PEI we had visited on a reccie but this time as I said we have only visited St Catharines so haven`t seen anywhere else,thanks for the info.

Brantford gets ferocious weather. The only time I've given up on a trip and gone home I was in Brantford.

$125,000 - $175,000 3 bedrooms

$150,000 - $200,000

As to Hamilton, I would avoid the north end and central Hamilton, anything in the East end, West end or Mountain are good... the west end is more expensive though.
