It did make very interesting reading... you do have to register

Re: Branding Canada
The odd thing about polls and asking OTHER NATION peoples to comment is it highlights just how little we know about one another. The concept of Brands associated with nationality and what the nation represents to the mindset is based on few if any accurate measures of reality.
Sweden. Where is Sweden many children would ask. They know its full of snow and ABBA came from there. But what actual facts are known by the average European yet alone the average Yank? The problem is when polling people with limited knowledge as a cross section of society would have varying degrees of knowledge about certain countries....more about some...much less about others and that would distort the poll at the outset. I note that the statment below is used twice "The UK came second. Although not as highly rated as a producer of products, it scores well as a tourist destination and on popular culture. The highest rated asset of Brand Britain, however, is the British people. Governance is well rated too, with the UK government described as "trustworthy" in stark contrast to the US government which is described as "dangerous" and "dishonest". If you were to poll just the UK, and indeed many polls were carried out pre and post election and the vast majority of those polled thought completely opposite of the above concerning the trustworthness of the current government. But go outside of ones own country and the world sees the UK as a sweet Queen with a lovely heritage, roses growing around everyones door and a government that is pure to the heart. The reality is most in the UK only see a fag paper between the current US and the current UK governments so why does the world see it differently at the ground level. Because many in this world would like to perceive the UK as a bastion of democracy and good thinking. Yes indeed..We thought of the concentration camp. We are the only country to have carried out genocide. We have a nuclear arsenal that beggars belief. We have terrible foreign office policies....eg Not in my back yard. There I go again. But yes the UK is a beautiful place to live in and there are many wonderful people. Many countries have the same. As it also said if other countries had been introduced into the subject the outcome would have been far different. In short for every arguement for a country and its values there is sure to be just as much reason to be against it....but to get a 'truer' poll you would need the same kind of people with the same level of IQ with the same values with the same life experiences at the same age from the same background and most importantly the same access to the facts - not the fiction concerning a country etc etc and then the varibles would be the countries themselves! What crap! (and it does well to read it with a eye on how the poll was put together) |

As I said - crap. (PS. Its astonishing what governments will pay out to have a survey done on for instance the benefits of living a healthly life ... like you need to be told. Those who know dont need to listen and those that dont knoiw wont listen anyway) |
