Box descriptions by removers...

Is the description of 'Odds & Sods' on a box acceptable?... They tell me it is and I am not so sure.

I have a rant coming on the removal men in general but I shall wait until they are finished!

Oh, I did a quick search but there wasn't a definitive answer: Can I ship my storecupboard contents - rice, pasta, sugar, spices, tins, soup. On the website it says no meat, eggs, poultry etc. Will my Hellmans Mayonnaise pass?!?!?

Thank you thank you thank you

You are going to the other side of the world and you want to ship packets of rice and tins of soup:eek: They do have this stuff in Canada you know! It might not be from Tescos but they have it.

I would say the hellmans is a NO NO, i have heard expats taking spices etc, remember that if you are using a container just think what will last
i am takin our spices etc, but anything like pasta that is opened etc i am leaving, but we are doing air shipment and not boat.
The removers should know with what they have packed before, if not i'd be asking why

Good luck, i know what you are going through, my life is in boxes at the moment :curse:

we have been told bt our shipper to list as much detail as possible about our box's, so we are listing what is in each box completely so there is no problem

Food box removed. I shall take the marmite by hand luggage!.... ;)

Shippers don't seem the most knowlegable. I seem to have gone with Amatuer Shippers R Us

God I hope it arrives in 1 piece without Customs sending it back.

I have asked 3 times now about the 'Odds & Sods' reference and they keep saying it is ok. Apart from renaming each box and changing the GTF list I don't know what else to do but pray....

One thing to do and we have done this for piece of mind.

Anythng with dirt, dust etc have been cleaned, hubbys tools have been through the highest cleaning routine they could and he smelt my house out :curse:
Anything to do with food i have kept out, may take the spices, but every single item is listed.
We have also used bedding as packing material, but listed this in the box as well
I have been told that immagration dont really both with the list that much, but i have peace of mind thatif im the one to be stopped then im in order ;)

We had one box which was "odds". It was luminous yellow and was for things like sets of screws for furniture, remote controls etc....... little things that needed to be kept together so we could put things back together at the other end.

we had to go to the customs office in peterborough to get our stuff signed off. The customs officer asked about anything on the list she didnt like the sound of. We jsut described it and that was all.

I wouldnt pack food though. Its not worth it.

But you'd lose it if you tried to put in carry-on luggage.
