Anyone know how to go about updating British birth cert with a name change done in Canada?

You can't change the name that appears on your British birth certificate. Your Deed Poll or other change of name certificate is evidence of your change of name should you wish to update your passport, driving licence, bank accounts, etc..

Thank you..I'll wait for my passport renewal and then send in the paperwork
