Binge Drinking in BC becoming a problem

Re: Binge Drinking in BC becoming a problem
Back half of last year, and lived there for quite a few years. I don't think it's changed much in that short a time.
That said, i'm basing my view on the areas i frequent and my choice of social life. They're pretty much identical in both countries for me so i don't doubt people living in a shithole in one country and moving to a nicer area, or vastly changing their social lives / circles, may experience a difference.
I didn't have my phone with me otherwise i would. One of them had a high heel shoe missing and a wonky wig so had the most non threatenning walk toward people i've ever seen. I felt bad for them after a short while when a bunch of 14yr old looking skate board kids started making fun of them and trying to throw what looked like popcorn down their "cleavage".

Haha. It's all about personal experience of course, but last month when I was back in the UK visiting some friends in York I saw more sh1t-faced people in one Saturday evening out in the town centre than I've seen in total in the two years since I moved to Toronto. Might just be particularly grim up north I guess, but I don't believe York to be a special case.
I've felt safe in all.
I'm curious as to how the BC government types will try to resolve this growing issue, and if it'll impact the influx of disgruntled Brits.

Id think that the mass drug use and homelessness is more of an issue to BC than a few of us lot hammered on the weekend.
I should certainly hope so anyway.

There's more chavs in England and they drink lots more than other people. It's ruining our cities and towns and flooding them with immigrants and making houses more expensive.

After I went to Uni I wore jeans from the Salvation Army shop in Oxford and what were then called tennis shoes. Above the waist? Either a t-shirt or a pullover, depending on season.

Maybe, but you can sure that, had I found anywhere in Toronto to compare with an average UK town centre on a Saturday night, I would have noticed. That's not to say that Vancouver is the same of course, I can't comment on that as I've never been there. I would rate Toronto about on a level with New York (where I previously lived) and old York would be a bit better than I remember Tampere (the one in Finland) to be, although that was 20 years ago so may well have changed for the better since then.

Having 4 x young adults in my family situation 2 mine and 2 hers my view is that Canadian kids tend to pre game (going to a home and drink booze) before they hit the pubs and clubs. They tend to spend very little money on the booze in these places as they are quite hammered before they go out or they get a DD and take the booze with them. On the pretence of going out for a smoke they then throw a few more back.
It seems like the UK pubs offer specials like 20 quid drink as much as you can or between certain hours. Canada cant do this as we have minimum set drink prices and we cannot do the happy hour thing.
The UK culture is to drink in the town centres and then hit the chippys and kebab shops whereas Canadian kids will drink in the burbs without the need to go into the town or city centres.
I find there is less fighting between groups over here but there is violent crime here. Plus Canadian kids dont have that soccer hooligan mentality that we see lots of UK kids exhibit. They tend not to walk up streets chanting Who Are Ya or Here We Go etc etc.
