Curious to know how much of this is actually true, and how much of it is sensationalizing by the writers.
Edit: Also found this article on The Globe and Mail about it - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...ticle19400982/
Edit2: Someone else already posted about this and I missed it, so if you want to contribute to the conversation, head over to this thread - http://britishexpats.com/forum/immig...c-24-a-859634/

It's completely wrong to do this and I bent the ear of my MP at length about it.
What it says is that if you are convicted of a terrorist offence in Canada or a foreign equivalent (measured by how many years you are sentenced to) then they can revoke your citizenship if doing so does not leave you stateless.
However, as we've seen with that guy in Ottawa who had his citizenship rescinded (because the govt. argues that he is Indian) this is the opinion of the Canadian govt. Well how can the Canadian govt. determine if you are a citizen of another country accurately? Deepan Budlakoti continues citizenship fight with federal government | Metro
There's also a similar case in the UK where they revoked the British citizenship of someone, arguing he is Iraqi, but he's not Iraqi and he established that in court - so the govt. just revoked his citizenship again, which they can do because it is an immigration proceeding. Home Secretary Theresa May strips man of UK citizenship - for the second time - Home News - UK - The Independent
The thing that gets me about it is that these people are hardly likely to become less likely to commit terrorist offences if they're removed to other countries, it's far more likely they will become more likely to do it. It's just complete madness imv.
As it says in that Globe and Mail article, citizenship is a right, not a privilege. Shipping people off to countries they are usually unfamiliar with is no different really than shipping people off to Norfolk Island back in the 19th century.
It's totally wrong-headed. "Oh they can be someone else's problem." How does that help? So it's okay if they blow up people, just so long as they're not Canadians.
